Has any body replaced their slides lately.

I went with the plain slides cuz they are so cheap. Next time will be chrome or anodized.

I replaced mine with some nice and heavy chromed brass slides provided by British Cycle Supply in Canada. Not sure who their supplier is... they are very responsive to e-mails though.

Their slides are a nice fit and as slick as can be. The heavy weight and slickness make for improved response when shutting the throttle.

Cheers,

I need to save up for some of those.

Yeah, I just talked to BCS, $66 each. I sent Amal a message asking if they were going to be making them for the 930's, they list them for the 600 series.

I also wanted to get the chromed brass slides but they were out of stock & I had heard the chromed alloy ones were not the ones to get. I haven't finished working on it so I haven't tried to find them from another place. Maybe the hard anodized ones are good?

You Know, you could find a decent used set just to let you know you have the right size, then spend your money on a set for anodized once dialed in.

Right size of what?

Let' see here. The title of this post is .....ah ......let me see here........oh ya, Amal slides.

Or maybe we're talking about the hat size to fit over that knuckle head of yours. 9 3/8 I would assume.

Sorry I couldn't resist. sorry. Sorry. Don't be mad, just kidding.....sorry.

Smart asses, size of the air cut out in 1/16" per whole number scale.
3.5 is the most common for Commando

I swear AC, there are most likely a dozen plus people online right now who probably have 6 to 8 sets of fairly decent No.3's just begging to be confirmed as the proper size for your machine. I would not doubt that a set will be donated for the cost of shipping shortly after you ask. I may be a little optimistic be things like this happen all the time here.

To the rest of you, try to keep up.

It's certainly possible the Surrey Cycle ones are from the same supplier as BCS. I ordered them a few months before the hard anodized came out from Burlen.

In any case the chromed brass from BCS are quite sturdy. I don't have any experience with faulty chrome slides, except to say every one I have heard of with chipping chrome was chromed zinc.

And I do have my old #3 slides available for anyone who wants them for whatever is reasonably cheap plus shipping. They had about 1000 miles on them.

Yes good thinking PV, I never think about borrowing stuff.
Now young swoosh, what size ..... dId I ever tell you about ....
The man from Bengal,
who had a mathmatical ball.
The cube of its weight,
was the length of his prick times by eight,
which was two thirds of five eighths of f.... all.

I'm using a 3 on my Combat. I thought that was stock for them.

Its worth bearing in mind the fact that modern fuels will in many instances require carb set up that is different to that used with the 5 star leaded fuels around when Nortons were new. A richer throttle slide is something that in nearly all cases will improve response, and provide smoother pick up and better running.

Yes gentleman, I have tried the 3.5 slides, way too lean with both needles that I have on hand.
A 3.0 came out so a 3.0 will go back in, just waiting on arrival now.

So, I've got these from my carbs, the markings being different, have I got one Genuine AMAL and one aftermarket? Although marked 3 and 3-1/2, they measure the same cutaway. Any thoughts?
