The heads on the screws of slide chamber top, and float bowl are chewed up, and the screws need to be replaced. I am thinking of using allen headed
screws and lock washers. They will be easier to remove, and "carefully" tighten. What screw sizes do I need to replace these screws...I believe the
screw shaft and threads are 10-32, or are they metric?
Thanks

2BA. They're available in ss if you like. RGM, Amal, I think Old Britts has them too, maybe Walridge. If you want to bugger them up, use 10/32, they'll fit but not right.

If you use Allen head screws on the float bowl, be careful not to over tighten them. The bowls distort pretty easily & are then a problem to seal, you can probably guess how I know.

10/32 is dang close. Run a 10/32 tap and don't over tighten.

The issue I run into is the pot metal threads get wallowed out so screw tightening is touchy procedure not to bugger the threads more w/o the screws coming out on rides. I will Never Ever again try the blue loctite on these and almost had to drill the screws out as the slots almost left the scene to take the torque to remove again. I will try teflon tape next time for a jamming restraint that don't fight ya the whole way out in tight quarters you can't get direct aim on the philips cross.
One should consider the issues to replacing or re-tightening the hard to reach screws when far away from home. The only screws I could find to steal to put bowl back on was only on the carbs already.
