Dan died Sunday. Best known as a car racer, he was also a serious motorcycle guy. I bought my first Norton, a Commando Production Racer, from him in '71 or '72. He was quite a guy.

Yes he was quite a man with a very compassionate side to hisself definitely another great one gone ... seems to be too often we see folks we looked up to passing on these days ,

Its sad that anyone dies that we look up to but thats life we are only here for a short time so enjoy it as much as we can and always remember your friends and the good times you had with them.

Well said. Ashley. I'm getting to the time when what's left is a lot less than what's passed (turned 76 last Sept.) Fortunately, still in fairly good health and living comfortably, close to salt water in Anacortes, WA. (top l.h. corner, about 50 crow-fly miles from the U.S./Canada border and 35 miles about due west of I-5). I took early retirement from Boeing at 58 and haven't missed it at all.

Sad to see this announcement, may he R.I.P.
He was only the second man to win a F1 race in his own car/engine.

In this life, it is important to have an active manhood. Some guys go through life without actually ever doing anything. Guys such as Dan Gurney live their lives, they don't just exist. I'm sorry to see him go, but I'm happy he did what he did while he was alive. That is what we should be celebrating. Have a look at your own lives - what are YOU achieving ?

A racer and constructor extraordinaire.
He was a giant in his sport.

I was fortunate to see one of his Gurney Alligator bikes up close once and while I couldn't get past the styling of it, the concept made total sense to me and I would have hopped on it and gave it a spin if given the chance.

R.I.P. to a true motorsports innovator and one heck of a racer !!!!!

Not a lot, but I can whistle without moving my lips !!!

I have achieved true happiness, what I was striving for and scored a bullseye ..... not aware how judged by others and not concerned.....
Craig

What you leave behind you after you have gone might also be important ? With Dan Gurney, many people remember.

Died from pneumonia ? I had influenza for about 2 months last winter, it ended up in a serious lung infection. Australia seem to get the new strains before other countries due to the long haul aircraft flights. Apparently the killer strain is now in Europe. The 'flu vaccinations help a bit even when you've already got it.
