Ok this may be on the list of a dump question, but I am curious what is the polarity on the accessory plug. It looks as though it can be installed in either position. I have looked for quite a bit looking for an answer on this forum but haven't found one. My MKIII plug is missing.
This is a lighthearted thread so fire away, im always in the mood for a good laugh.
Oh yeah BTW, I have a cigar/power plug outlet,

ACCESSORY PLUG AND SOCKET (06.2099)

The big hole is on the right and is positive. Don't run that battery down shaving.

Has anybody actually plugged an accessory into this socket, back in the day?
I have heard the jokes about electric socks and shavers but wondered if anybody actually used it.

Speaking of polarity, the socket is polarized, meaning you can only plug it in one way. However, it has a design fault, in that it will allow you to make electrical contact when the plug is reversed. So if you have a polarity sensitive device, it could be toasted while you are trying to figure out which way the plug goes in.

Here's what I have in mind, well everything but the sunglasses.

You should be able to see the wires in the back. Assuming no changes have been made to the system the red wire will be earth. I used it as a way to connect a battery charger. The plug was flimsy and did not last long so I stopped using it. Shop manual says shaver or auxiliary lights but I swear I also saw coffee maker in some publication. The main fuse protects that circuit (and almost everything else) so if it gets shorted your bike won't run.

I used to use it for a little low pressure compressor for pumping up a camping air bed. And more importantly for sucking the last bit of air out when packing up. I'm sure i used it for something else in the camping line, but the memory has gone.

I run my heated vest from the accessory plug. Works fine. The vest is just resistance wire, so polarity doesn't matter.

I have a Heat Troller Controller, not sure this can be wired positive ground.
Besides reverse polarity will make it run backwards, now its a cool vest, hahah

Electric vests are not polarity conscious so no concerns. I love my e-vest , should have bought one sooner , extends the season too. :)

thank goodness it doesn't get that cold here.

In the motor trade we were taught not to charge batteries with them connected to the car stil,l or it will blow the diodes in the alternator. Same applies with a commando. Watch out.,

In the mid-late 80s I had a snowmobile type suit with resistance wire in the chest and thighs. In February one year I rode from LA to NOLA when I moved there for a year.

Going into Ft. Stockton TX, it was in the 70s. The next day it was 19. All across TX. FREAKY.

I used it on and off all day, as it would get quite hot in places. About 9pm riding through Houston the battery on the 750F I was riding went flat.

Pulled the battery, chained the bike to a signpost and my buddy and I checked into a motel.

Next day went to Sears and bought a charger, since that was the only CC I had at the time, and then to their coffee shop for a dozen doughnuts and read my book for hours with the charger plugged in under the booths table.

Returned the charger and proceeded on the journey.

I have been using this plug for over 30 years to charge the battery on Nortons without a problem. My plug only goes in one way so the polarity is correct.
I have never used it for anything else.

Yes the plug will not plug in but one way, but the contacts are exposed and if you try to put the plug in wrong, it will make electrical contact. I use mine for charging also, but I put a dot of red fingernail polish over the receptacle and a dot on the plug to help my failing memory each time.

Yes jaydee75, with contacts exposed it would be easy to make a wrong connection.
I run my Grebings heated jacket and gloves without draining the battery. If I remember when I check the charge voltage with jacket and gloves on high it was at 13.8+v @ 2K rpm. I don't ride very far and usually its not on the high setting, the bike has the largest Shorai battery that fits and Boyer power box.
