Sure don't want to open a "Pandora's box", but I really have to ask. Surely someone on this forum must know  Currently I'm building the crankshaft for my 850 project, and was wondering what the allowable "stretch" is for reusing the crankshaft bolts/studs; and the connecting rod bolts ??? Everything I read tells me to use NEW con-rod nuts, OK ... I have no problem with that. (I've got new ones ordered.) But, none of my research tells me it's necessarily to install new con-rod bolts. Some even recommend reusing the old "tried and true" con-rod bolts !

I've also got several sets of used crankshaft bolt type and the later studs only type of crankshaft fasteners. Though some I would obviously not reuse ... others of them look pretty good.

Looked in every single Norton resource I have; Haynes manual, Clymer manual, Norton workshop manual, various magazine Norton articles ... even the INOA Tech Digest and I can't find a standard, or even measurements anywhere. :?: Does anyone know what the "new " length is for the crankshaft studs, and the allowable "stretch" that they are still considered useable ? How about the con-rod bolts ? If it was REALLY that critical, (and I think it is) surely I would have found an answer in at least one of my resources. Comments please :?

Don't worry too much the tried and tested methods you're reading about work very well indeed.
