So you did. I missed it because I tend to mostly keep to the Commando and Other Classic forums, and don't regularly check the General Motorcycle forums. Hard not to duplicate posts once in a while on this site.

Ken, I don't understand your comment about 'excess'. I think that is a very pleasant and inspiring bike. I suggest the guys who built it should be encouraged as it is effectively another 'thunderbike' in production - (aircooled, two valve, twin cylinder motor). For what it is, it is excellent. We could do worse than develop a race class for that type of bike (including your Seeley). There are no four valve aircooled Ducatis, and most of the Guzzis are now four valve and would be excluded if the class was based on technology and capacity of the motor. The old commando was pretty much the limit of the ancient British twin technology, the 961 is a valiant attempt of extending that. However as long as our backsides point downwards, four valve motors will always be quicker than two valve, and the really fast bikes will always have to be watercooled.
Have you ever raced against 851 Ducatis ? I suggest that would be a fair fight.

The trick is to use the "View new posts" link. then you see anything from any forum that is new since the last time you visited.

Hi Dave
Crickey your a bit too organised mate. :D
I tend to open each forum & scan them so that I can avoid opening & reading quite a few of them :D
I look for your posts (own a yellow proddie) also anything Ikren, dances, ggryder, homeslice & Macrae post. ie racing.
Road wise if a certain gentleman called Ludwig posts I have a butchers. Too many posts to just read them all. Plus I am getting old & somethings have been done to death. Not to mention the more time I am on here the less time I am in the garage.
Thanks for the guidance though. Labs how to post photos was the best bit of info on navigating a website I have found. :D

The nice thing about the new posts is that you can quickly scan and see what you want to look at. With additional forum areas being added you don't want to miss something (like the Barber pictures!). But I understand, there is a bit of traffic and it's often a repeat.

A good suggestion, Dave. I admit I never noticed that option. I'll give it a try, although I'm a little like Chris in that there are some listers whose posts I always check, and some I put on a little lower priority level. Still and all, this is by far the most interesting site I frequent.

Alan, my comment about excess had more to do with the idea of taking a brand new $18,000 - $19,000 (or whatever the new 961 Norton sells for) production motorcycle that already has an aircooled, two valve, pushrod, twin cylinder engine, and replacing it with an OHC twin. Might as well just buy a modern OHC twin engine bike. I have nothing against the modern Triumph twin. It's a great engine with lots of tuning info and parts available, but I think I'd be more impressed if someone just designed and built a lightweight racing frame for it instead of swapping it into the 961. In any case, it's his bike, and he's certainly free to do whatever he wants with it. That's what I do with mine.

If you really want a weird engine transplant, this is my latest ride. I fit a Yamaha FZ600 four into a Honda dualsport single chassis. Not a classic motorcycle, but a lot of fun to ride, and it cost me a total of $500 to build, including new tires.

Admittedly, this is OT for this forum, so feel free to ignore it.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Yes, I have raced against 851 Ducatis with my 920 cc PR, but that was a long time ago. My bike was just as fast on the Daytona banking, but my engines (yes, plural) broke their cases in practice and in the race, and the Ducatis didn't. C'est la guerre.

It's a great time saver as you don't have to go into each forum and look for stuff.

Try this, bookmark this link and all you have to do is click this one thing and it will take you to the new posts. I have to have some kind of tricks as often as I check up on ya'll.

Ken, My feeling is that the air cooled Ducatis are the same sort of bike as the commando, the technology is the same and so are the problems. So racing against them is pretty much a level playing field. I get pretty peeved when I find myself in races against two strokes , and bikes with motors with twice the number of valves. Nobody seems to know the concept of Brake Mean Effective Pressure these days ?
I see what you mean about the cost of building the modern Triton, however the good thing is that it exists and is an example of a different direction which might be taken in production, using common parts from the two models. - Better justifies the overheads ? There is a Triumph model which uses a Harrier frame which looks good too.
