A well known and respected Norton Gentleman phoned me this afternoon to tell me the following tale
An owner recently bought a Mk3 and gave it to the friend for checking over and servicing before using it.
The friend went to drain down the oil tank and noticed that in the feed line to the engine was a brass petrol type tap. Out of curiosity he removed the tap and measured the diameter of the hole through it...0.156 inch. The pipe leading to and from it having an inside diameter of 3/8 (0.375) inch inside diameter with the inside diameter of both metal pipes from the oil tank and into the engine having an inside diameter of 5/16 (0.3125) inch.
I asked the friend if he was going to advise the owner that it might be a good idea to strip the motor to see what damage had occurred due to lack of oil to the engine and he assured me he would be doing so when the customer turned up to retrieve his bike. Personally I would put it in writing and have the owner sign it before handing the bike back so as to protect my arse!
Of course both of us are now very olde and clearly have forgotten our young days when we did such stupid things.....

Not likely any damage. The feed hole at the oil pump is no larger than that. jim
