Anyone know how many of the mark 3 ES Roadsters were manufactured ? Mine is number 300

As a general rule of thumb, Nortons made about ~10,000 of most models they made.
Very approximately.
Someone may have more precise numbers. ?

This was discussed here a while back.
The fact that the factory records didn't entirely survive intact
means that the numbers may never be known exactly.
There are gaps / blanks / missing records to take into account.
hopethishelps.

Les,
Any idea why the frame number match the engine number on that MKIII ?
On my bike engine and ID tag on frame match, number stamped on frame is different.

I can't tell you why, all I can say is that some have matching numbers, and some don't, later MkIIIs can often have matching 6-digit frame and certification plate numbers (and no "F" frame prefix) as my "7/75" MkIII does, with the '850' prefix and NV globe symbols only on the frame.

As we've seen from 336539, a few late MkIIIs apparently had the '850' prefix stamped on the plate as well as the engine along with the NV "globe" (three lines within a circle) markings which started appearing on 850s from around mid-'73.

Les,

I was wondering if it was a deliberate "last Norton made" from left over parts stamped to match. That would make one think, is this is the "last one", until the next "last one" shows up. This Norton "stuff definitely" is not an exact science.

Thanks,
Pete

The last 1,400 or so were supposedly assembled from left-over parts, but 336539 is the last one off the line as far as we know, although our member ZDF (Joe Seifert of Andover Norton) has maintained that 336537 was the last official Commando according to Andover Norton records.
As for any later contender, well, it's had ample time to surface.

There have been reports of a few Commandos assembled as late as 1981 by Andover Norton, but Joe (ZDF) told us those Commandos were actually bikes from the last production run that had been tucked away!

Ok, that just about clears up the confusion!!
Thanks Les.
I don't know how you have access to all this obsure information but I'm glad your on this forum. You must have a room with just file cabinets and paper records. (Pre Internet)

Thank also to DynoDave for his input and info

Some of that information has come from books and magazine articles, but I'm sure the greatest part of it has come from discussions on this forum over the past 10 years  therefore I'd say the Access Norton Forum is the filing cabinet. :)
