Hi guys,

I've got a crank question. I've managed to get my hands on another one recently, the only problem is it's already been dis-assembled, don't seem to be any marks as to which should be the drive/timing side on the flywheel. Any way of telling easily? I can only guess that if I bolted it together the wrong way round it'd try to shake itself to pieces?

Cheers,

Steve

Hi Steve,

I wish i could help you, but I will be interested if anyone can tell you a way to identify which way around the flywheel section is mounted, I marked mine before pulling apart to be sure, cause I think they line up both ways.
Cheers Richard

Bolt it up without using undue force (if thats needed it will probably fit better the other way round) and put it on a balance rig - straight edges or forked rollers. If it is the wrong way round, the big-ends will not be stopping at perfect vertical.

Hi WEAL Norton,

Big thanks for that. If they're out of vertical, is it quite noticeable, or will I have to use some kind of measuring device?

Cheers,

Steve

p.s Richard...Now we both know! :)
