The flood bike was painted electric blue metalflake with gold graphics and no stripes. My question is, did any come from the factory without pinstripes? I have seen the color scheme on a restored bike and it looks pretty good, but I want it to have an original-type paint job.

Don't think so. All the 850 Roadsters came with the stripes. Also the Fireflake blues came with grey/silver graphics. The earlier metalflake blue 750s came with gold. Not necessarily facts. Just my observations over the years.

I thought it was repainted, as the underside of the tank was different, but my memory is bad

According to my '74 brochure Fullauto is spot on, however they call it "Pacific Blue" and if you look carefully you can see it has a different seat cover. Is it possible your is a '73 build?

That seat cover was used in 1972-73. The 750 Roadster models did not have stripes except for the 'D' on the black tanks. Also I have never seen a '74 blue metallic with Gold lettering, only silver. However, my '73 blue metallic 750 does have gold lettering.

If the serial number is lower than 307311 it is likely a '73 model year (Mk I 850).

Hello. My 73 850 was "Bass Boat Blue" Metalflake with Silver Decals and Pinstripes. Built 3/73 and engine number 301340.
