My 71 commando project bike was originally built in January of 71. The light bucket has a hole for an ammeter.

Does anyone know if the Commandos came with ammeters during this period?

Thanks,

tett

1970 had ignition key in the side cover, bolted on rear wheel(no cush drive)with three rubber plugs on speedo side, and plain green dots on guages. At least that is how my 70 was. My 71 has cush drive, ignition switch facing forward on left side, and dashed green dots on guages. Then again it may go by numbers. The guru's will opine.

According to Roy Bacons book the Ammeter went in 1971 and was replaced by 3 warning lights. Possibly your bike being such an early model for 1971 could have been using up old stock the way they sometimes have been known to do.

Bacon's books should not really be relied upon as the last word when it comes to details. Full of errors but I'm a bit of a picky type.

The only thing "71" about my Commando is the title, I have the ammeter,no cush drive, square box oil tank,trees,guages,frame....
