..the right timing side engine case,

can these engines go with ignition setups like the newer models have, off the right crank end instead?

If you are thinking of the ignition that is mounted to the end of the cam as on the newer engines then there is no place to mount an ignition on the end of the cam on the old engines.

But most of the ignition systems that fit in the later model points cavity will also fit in the points box that fits behind the cylinder.

Just don't mount an ignition with electronics on the plate back there or it will be cooked shortly.

Jim, I am guessing it is okay to put a Boyer in the old style rear mounted distributor, but not something like a Trispark?

yes, so nothing simple like bolting on the newer cover & adding parts?

outsida that, i think you said in another post/thread that there is also a fitment issue with the newer cover related to clearance with the xtra mag associated parts?

Well you could bolt on a later cover along with the cam, gears, sprockets, spindle and engine cases.
But why would you want to change?

i was thinking if a simple bolt on was dooable, newer cover then adding ignition bits,

i'm not familiar with the norton bits or if one of the new electronic units could be adapted, one of them at least i've seen fitted to a non standard location/pickup point

eitherway, ive been trying to figure out this setup, which i'm pretty sure now runs newer cases & assume additional mag bits have been fitted

here's your post partly about timing cover fitment

Yep, definitely newer cases and likely some kind of custom drive inside- since I doubt that the original magneto drive would last more than a few miles driving a blower.

are you talking only at the mag sprocket area? or including the chain to the mid double sprocket?

i haven't found any details or info other than a few vids with running engines,

thoughts on that whole approach as a workable way to run the blower? via the stock parts for mag chain drive, sprockets etc & engine case, perhaps modified?

from your other post, even considering going with a mag on the newer cases, requires some beefing up of the mounting points in the mag sprocket area & no doubt, spinning a mag is one thing ..vs a blower

then there is also the stock (mostly as i understand..) non adjustable chain to the mag sprocket..

here's the maney mag setup

I would suspect the blower takes between 10 and 20 horse to run. Maybe less if the boost is low but the little magneto chain is designed for fractional horsepower. I wouldn't expect it or the sprockets to last very long pulling a blower.
The pinion gear is notoriously easy to break also, so if durability was a concern I would say it would all need to be upgraded.

Personally I would run it from the primary chain/belt.
