Putting new shoes in front drum and I've got to replace the screen on front vent because it's horribly corroded. Any harm in me removing the blocking plate for front and side vents? This bike is only going to be ridden on nice days and not used for any touring so the rain argument doesn't seem too valid.

Just curious if there was a general consensus?

Thanks in advance,
Dave

Main reason for blocking water entry is loss of brake friction not rust prevention so if encountering a shower or puddle drag brake a while to heat-dry out before next need as won't act like a brake till dry. Just don't get the brakes very wet before descending a steep with a sharp turn at base.

I always understood that the screen was to prevent small stones and big lumps of stuff getting into the brake, not water.
cheers
