Running fine for about 3months then again, problems. Leaking sorted via stripdown again.
Issue is @ 4000rpm, coughing farting missing and no matter what I do, can not tune my way out of it. Needle position along with idle screw in various states of tune to no effect.

Was running great up to last week then out of the blue, dramas. Even thought to swap out coils etcetera.
Through hands in the air, ripped the things off and fitted 36mm mikuni. Runs like Swiss watch but less snap at the throttle which I do love. Rollon is different but mids are right up there with the Flatslide.

I know everyone says they're great and reliable but this is the second time I've switched these out and my second set (32's now 34's twin pack)

Giving me the shits

What carbs do you have? Mik TM's? PWK? Keihin?

What's your carburetor experience level? Comfortable taking them all apart, down to the last tiny screw?

I've worked on Mik's, Keihins and many others for decades, but never PWK. If they were running well, and now they're not, and you are ONE HUNDRED PERCENT SURE it's not an ignition problem, the common thread is, it's gonna be a blockage or (internal) leak. Search for the problem, don't change jets/needles.

Absolutely, +1 on that. Also check for possible split o rings on the adjuster screws, a needle that's come adrift, etc.

As Conkers says, if they were right, then they are fundamentally OK, you 'just' need to find what's changed, and why.

Look for a split boot. Some eariler boots were Amal brand and I have found a better stronger one. I now have a thicker stronger boot. I've never had a carb change like that. Send them with maniolds to me for free repair or replacement so they arrive after May 12.

Average to good. I can strip anything down and rebuild. I did the whole coil switch that is remove the coils for spare ones and no joy. Fitted the mikuni to prove to myself more than anything that I wasn't going mad and it's running great.

I have had my 32s for over 3 years now and haven't had any problems with them, talk to Jim and he will help you with them if you are having problems, I have not touched mine since they have been on the only thing that has happen is one float stuck twice now but easy fix sometimes by just tapping the float bowl, but they have stayed tuned so have only tuned then when I first set them up, so talk to Jim, might be a easy fix.

If your carbs don't respond to tuning it's usually an indication something is amiss- most likely an air leak of some kind. Since Jim started marketing the flatsides there've been so many more success stories on this forum than reported problems. Jim stands by them so I would just take up his offer, return them to him and let him diagnose the problem, rather than tearing your hair out. You've got the Mikuni to keep you going in the meantime so IMHO it's a no brainer. Good luck and make sure you report back and tell us what the problem was!

Are you running inline fuel filters? Pleated paper? Brass beads? Nylon screen? Is your tank fiberglass? Steel? Coated? Have you drained the bowls into a clean cup? Any debris noted?
