The 235*** numbers were supposedly used for the short stroke 750s and also some '74 850 Mk2A models

Quoting LAB from another thread, but I'm curious about the 850 models using a 235XXX VIN. Can anyone verify this? I had heard about the short stroke 750 (using 850 style barrels). I assume these were sold for homologation of the motor.

I have never heard about full (long stroke) 850's. Les is most always dead on his information, but would like to know how rare this was. Anybody actually seen one that was verified as 850 (well 828)?

Thanks for starting this string. I've been web searching to see what the VIN was for these engines. My belief is they were 235xxx. I posted the photo below in May number 235713. The owner said it is a short stroke 750 in a proddy racer (obviously not the original engine). It has a '72/'73 breather moved to the timing cover, so seems to be a 750 cases. Can anyone confirm what cases the short stroke came with?

Not that it means anything but I think it's interesting that my gearbox is 235056. And I assure you all that there is nothing special about it other than the stamping.

Does the gearbox number match your engine number? If so do you have a short stroke engine?

NO no no, nothing like that. Frame, crackcase, gearbox all differant. That would be like winning the lotto.
