A little over 2 years since a well timed troll thru Craigslist landed me this restoration project that had been sitting since 1987. I should be enjoying my first ride next week (would have happened yesterday if not for a faulty Lucas ignition switch). Will post photos of the finished product soon. Hope to run into some of you fine folks on the road this summer.

Good job so far only find yourself a better headsteady as this one is prone to break. Better use the later box type headsteady or if you can spare the money use the best available: CNW headsteady.

Thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate any ideas for improvement. In so deep now it doesn't matter any more, this bike is going to the grave with me.

Hey ho dm, thanks for stealing the time and money to bring us another beauty to lust after. Two yrs is hauling ass on a soup to nuts recovery. The 850 box steady belongs under hoods of cars not the top of pretty Norton heads. If'n was me I'd brace the 750 plate steady , mine has lasted many years of hard use before me and by my own hand after drilling the snot out of it on Peel and now Trixie.

Could also fab up or get a link type steady too.

Great to see another bike coming together - especially in that colour!

Have to agree with the other guys regarding the headsteady. I have a Dave Taylor one which works great, but has its critics
I'm doing a 750 Combat at the moment (just getting started), and I'm considering making a Heim-joint one from some steel box-section I have lying around - just like Davamb did a while back

You can make your own head steady, with some aluminum and hardware. I used a carbide blade on the cut off saw to manage my aluminum. Seems to work fine so far. There was a production racer one made even simpler by ludwig, I have his notes and pictures if you want them, it might be hard to find all the info, it's on a couple of forums and some of the pics have disappeared.

For right now I'm changing to a head steady from an 850 and taking some time to decide what I want long term. Thanks for the advice, added a few more pics.

Lovely to view but ya do know everyone will think your a herbal'd hippy with that trippy metal flake flash backs.

I was doing this in black and gold. Then saw the blue, wasn't love at first sight but the more I looked I really loved it. I knew I would run the risk of being labeled as such. I'll hit EBay for some bell bottoms and tie dye and be all set.

There are few things as fun as a Commando and all the goings on around them.
I was reading along fine until your punch line hit for a LOL..
