1. How do private messages get deleted to make room for future ones?

2. What do the various icons on LH side of post headings mean?

Your inbox has a maximum capacity of 300 messages. Once your inbox is full, by default the oldest messages should delete automatically as new ones arrive.

To check or change the settings, go to: User Control Panel > Private messages> Rules, folders & settings, If folder is full:

Alternatively messages can be deleted manually using the control at the bottom right of your inbox page.

Thanks, I will hunt again in inbox for a delete function to tag. Where to look should help I hope. Some early messages I'd like to keep and I pick the first to go.

Where's the undo button on Commandos?

Any messages you want to keep can be moved from your inbox to Saved messages:

(for some reason I find the "Move marked to Saved messages" text doesn't display in the menu until I place my cursor on the line?)

Would be worth making this a sticky, I've often wondered what the icons were all about but never bothered asking.

OK, I have added a link to this topic in the Tech. sticky.

(And I added another icon to the list.)

Sorry to ask for yet more techie labour, which I presume is voluntary, but is there any chance that the images of the icons might be fixed? Or is it just me? I'm only seeing the same image of a kitten over and over, with the message 'Photo not found. Click for photos', although clicking does nothing. Cheers.

Not just you Colin - Jerry made a post about the Photo Bucket issues here: http://www.accessnorton.com/photo-bucket-t27263.html

This is a worldwide problem, not just Access Norton - it's because the owners of photo bucketwant all of their subscribers to pay a minimum of $60 per year for a service that was previously free.
What makes it worse is that to have the rights to link to pics on forums (like we do here) you need to subscribe to their premium plan which is $400 per year.

As a result, the photo content of millions of threads across thousands of forums has been wrecked.
It was always going to happen, as you don't get anything for free these days, but most feel that their rates are not reasonable, and that content is being held to ransom.

Ah, ok thanks – what about using the 'Add image to post' option, in blue below the editing box? It worked when I posted a couple of pics in the thread for Commando photos, and uses a different system – I think?! Again, sorry if I'm being a pest!

Photobucket trying to charge a fee doesn't matter as much as if Youtube starts doing it.

Thankfully, not to me.

I've only ever posted a single youtube video of a short ride captured on a keyfob camera.

This is another free option. I can guarantee how long they will host your images for ...

Thanks Jerry, I was thinking specifically of the images illustrating the icons, after hobot's original query – I appreciate the explanations, but seeing the icons would make it clearer for newbies. Like me! Cheers.
