Hey everyone, here,s a thought you might want to consider. I have a buddy that races motorcycles and his secret to top engine performance is to add a little low ash 2cycle oil to the gas. He claimes that it will boost compression that will give the engine that little extra boost. He also says that on his everyday ride machine he gets a few more miles to the gallon. I talked to him about the Norton setup on carbs and how the slides wear quickly and he claims that the 2cycle oil in the gas will lube the slides and prevent a lot of the wear. Now you only put a teaspoon to the gallon of gas. This does not cause any smoke from the exhaust. I took a ride with my buddy yesterday and he added some Castrol 2cycle low ash oil when I filled up my Victory and I could tell a difference in engine response and performance. I,am going to try some in my MK3 today. As far as I can see it sure can,t hurt anything and if it lubes the slides that,s all the better. What do you guys think ???

hehe the smell of caster bean oil burnt a bit out exhaust is the classic smell of race track in days of yore, or the model airplane guys. I put a dash of Beanoil 2 stroke additive in Ms Peel for the flavor and top end lube similar but better than the Mystery Oil sold for this too. Too much can overwhelm head in close quarters or be prone smoke to detonation. Might get Castrol A747 (their syn/castor blend and oh so sweet), Maxima 927 or Klotz BeNol. A747 is a rather thick 2t oil ringing in at an SAE50. Blendzall makes a product called Ultra that is a bean base injector oil on the other end of the scale, about a 20 weight. I put some in chainsaws for some flavor in the woods collecting fire wood or clearing driveway after storms. On one of Ms Peels first flights after initial rebuild I had bean oil and moonshine in her Caswell'd coated IS tank, so we both got high as a kite.

Ya it might lube the carbs but I like the Norton Suck, Squeez, Bang, Exhaust. I don't want it to go bang bang bang BANG!!!

Aw gtsun, come of now, were've not talking 50's greasers amounts, so just little dab will do ya...

The secret is to pour in the right amount ,teaspoonfull is right or a small capfull. It will not smoke or build up oily deposits or start 2-stroking or change plug colours or introduce buildup deposits. Been doing it for years and occasionally add a splash of octane booster product since the cap is up anyways.

I have been doing this for years with my lawnmower. I usually run out of regular, and in desperation use the mix gas. I always see longer run times on a tank, and the engine sounds a little happier. It is added oil after all, and it is such a small percentage.

Sounds like a good place for a little Marvel Mystery oil.

Like the ugly girl in high school said ( Try it you might like it !!! )

Hey, careful now guys, ya know this is how it starts, `cause soon you`ll be hankerin` for the full benefit of the 2-cycle experience...L.O.L.

I run a teaspoon of 2 stroke oil in the tank. Started doing it after I rebuilt the top end. I ride with a guy who does it with bean oil and I love to ride behind him as I am old enough to remember that smell at the track. Couple that with some 110 racing fuel with all the additives and you have it all together.

I use it as well... but only to lube the valve guides. The other far fetched claims are placebo only. The ONLY thing 2-cycle oil does is lubricate the engine allowing it to live (the two stroke). There are no performance benefits. OTOH, it does help keep your tank from rusting during storage.

My understanding is the tiny amount of 2 Stroke oil additive does not help compression but helps slow down valve /guide wear. Also I will step out on a limb here and state that valve and guide wear is way more frequent than piston wear and that some owners freak out that their pistons/rings are worn before contemplating doing a valve job.

I have been doing this with my Goldwing for a few months and noticed a slight uptick in gas mileage and she seems to run a little smoother. I saw an extensive article about it and the recommendation was to use 2-stroke with TC3 additive. I will see if I can find the article. I think the mix was something like 1/640. About an ounce for every 5 gallons.

Oz of oil to the tank shouldn't help mileage but if also has acetone in it then its old news way to get better vaporization mileage increase. Might look up ingredients in the non oil additive. Brake fluid might be even better as combines these in one dose.

What about putting a bit of diesel in the tank? I've heard the same results, it's probably like putting 2 stroke oil in the tank. Just some extra oil in the top end from the carbs.

Might look it up but diesel ain't that good a lube but would lower octane some so might burnt quicker for a bit more power and mileage if ya tune just short of detonation.

MMO The contents of Marvel Mystery Oil were 74 percent mineral oil, 25 percent stoddard solvent, and 1 percent lard."
A oil thread goes a long way on every forum so see if ya care to wade through this one on snake oils in gasoline -on Bob The Oil Guy site.
