Took my fenders off today to do some cleaning. I had thought some of the fenders were stainless? On my rear fender around the horn mount the chrome has wore off (looks like battery acid did it) and I see brass or bronze plating. About to send some parts off to be chromed and it looks like these fenders are chrome. If so I want to box them up also. Thanks

Good chrome plating usually has at least one layer of nikel plate applied as a base for chrome. High quality chrome plating may also have a layer of copper applied before the nikel layer.

Thanks LAB. I had a MK3 a few years ago and if I remember it had stainless fenders.

If you have any 850 or a 750 with engine number 220xxx it would have come with stainless fenders. Over the years anything could have been changed.

I found a pic of my 75/850. They look like stainless. Anyway the ones off my 73 are off to be re-chromed. Thanks again for the info.

Yes, stainless mudguards/fenders were certainly fitted from some point around the time the 850 models were introduced in early 1973.

Both of my '73 750's have stainless fenders (11/72 build dates). I have seen at least a couple '72 Combat 750's that had stainless fenders that the owners claimed were original. This may have been a case where the last '72's and early '73's may have gotten whatever was in the bin at the time.
