1973 Commando Herringbone oil supply & return lines. Any chance of finding a good replacement?

No, current production is not like the original as no one knows how to set the machine up, cloth covered rubber tube used on VW's is a lot cheaper and looks better.

Would you have the link or part# for the VW hose?

You will need to find a US source but in UK its widely available.

reference old brits - there's probably enough info for sizing and lengths - https://www.oldbritts.com/54_800005.html - just guessing, but I would think 4-5 feet of 3/8" ID (AN6) would suffice. for feed and return.
Yes, 3/8”.
I don’t know, if four feet would do it. I’d order five, but perhaps some experienced buyers can chime in.
I’m using the original herringbones, as, it’s suction and MAYBE 5-10 PSI (cold oil through filter).
No leaks ever.
Even though it’s slightly checked on the jacket, I know the failure mode of hydraulic hose, so no worries.

I lucked out with the herringbone hoses on the Titanic. All were in good shape and function as designed. Can't say the same fro the front brake hose.

Hi. The Parker 293 is very flexible hose but has a printed layline and colored tracers running through the braided cover. Take a look at the Earls Pro-Lite product. It is private labeled for Earls by Parker (it’s Parker 801 with a solid color braided nylon cover). It is the closest to the original herringbone hose that I have found. Here is a link to the Earls site. Thx!

OldBritts has a supposedly close hose. I just ordered it but it hasn’t arrived. Ella sells a length sufficient to make up all hoses. I think I am going to have to remove the lettering. I’ll post pics when I get it.

Old Britts has a good, original-type fabric covered hose. It is Gates but I'm not sure which Gates part number. Cheap enough at less than $5 a foot from them.

No, I don't think so. Question is for how long it will last when the primary application is air and coolant. That's all. Some people here may have had good success with it.
No hose will last forever. But some last longer than others.

Hi. The Parker 801 is listed as an air hose but is an excellent general purpose hose. I worked for Parker for many years and currently work for a Parker distributor. We sell the 801 for a ton of low pressure applications like oil return lines. The Earls product is just 801 with a nylon cover for abrasion resistances. The intertube and cover of the 801 is constructed from “buna” which has excellent oil resistance. I replaced the original hose on my 72 Commando with 801-6 and it looks great and preforms well. Thx!
