Just wondering if anyone knows the thrust washer set up for the combat cam. I removed the cam and found one bevel washer and one thrust washer with the little tag that goes in the case. The cam bushings 06-2600 without the shoulder are installed in both ends. The parts manual looks like there's only one thrust washer with the combat cam installed.

It is Taboo to use the '72 thrust washer with the tab. The brass thrust washer w/o the tab goes up against the case, the beveled steel washer, flat face goes against the cam. Nothing is needed on the cam chain side behind the sprocket.

I just break off the tab on '72 parts or use the ones that come w/o the tab in the first place. One would think the DS of cam don't really need one as in operation cam is pulled to the TS, yet that is the one I found in first Combat with tab broke off and inhaled by the oil pump, so something must of made it twist off.

Yes, I agree, this is how it goes. And don't forget to break off the tab.

thanks hobot, so break the tab off the thrust washer, and the flat side of the beveled washer goes towards the tach drive. Would it be worth it to use jb weld on the the tab to keep from breaking off. Keeping that thrust washer in place and to keep from rotate against the case.

TABs are TABOO, remove by clipping or bending off then file so nothing proud of the flatness and let it turn as it may. JBWeld would not hold in this case, nothing will as just too weak and thin a part and not needed to refrain form spinning.

Its a bit worth while to open up and clear up the funnel-ness of the oil hole entry for each bush side, only splashed oil drainage past these supplies the bushes.

hobot help me out here, The flat side rides on the gear side and not on the thrust washer case side. The norton workshops manual states C29 para 2 flat side towards crank case and bushing. The Roy Bacon book on restorations talks about removing the tab too, Thanks for all the advice. Hope to get her done before it gets mush warmer. If I knew how to post pictures i would but haven't figured that out either.

The flat side of the conical washer faces towards the crankcase, and the tapered side faces towards the camshaft tacho drive gear, just like the service manual says.
