    1971 Commando parts bike
    Asking: $1,000 or best offer
    Location: Middletown, NJ

Selling my basket case 1971 Commando. We had an accident - I'm mostly recovered, the bike no so much. Prior to the accident, the bike was in very good shape (see last pic). I am the second owner of the bike (purchased in 1972). Clear title.

The pictures tell the story – but here are some details.

    The damage includes:
    - Cracked frame at the main down-tube near the steering goose-neck
    - Entire front end is trashed
    - A crack in the Primary chain case
    - A puncture hole in the right side engine case at the top where the primary chain case meets the engine case
    - The secondary chain case is trashed
    - A puncture hole in the outer transmission case
    - One of the mounting brackets on the gas tank is ripped out and there is a good sized dent in the front of the tank on the left
    - Cracked glass on the Tach
    - Both exhaust are trashed
    - Wiring harness was new – sustained some damage

What's in tact (new = installed on bike in winter of 2015 with only a few hundred miles logged before the accident the following summer):
    - Pair of new Amal 930 carbs
    - New Pazon Electronic ignition
    - Rear wheel with new tire
    - New rear shocks
    - Drive chain
    - Rebuilt Speedo (glass did not crack!)
    - New center stand
    - New clutch plates and clutch center

Along with the bike, this sale also includes:
    - A few Norton specialty tools
    - New Power Arc Advanced Electronic Ignition from Old Britts (installed once, but resulted in hard to start bike – bike now has new Pazon ignition as noted above)
    - A small selection of new parts (to rebuild front forks, etc.)
    - A collection of old/used parts (including a fiberglass gas tank (leaks) and a box of tranny gears and shafts I picked up along the way)
    - Brand new bike cover

The pics are on Photobucket here (as well as the IMG links below to specific pics):

Yes, I survived but it was not pretty (I have a whole new respect for helicopters and trauma centers!). I was reluctant to post these pics, but don't know how else to sell what's left. I've owned this Norton for 42 years and have been a motorcycle enthusiast all my life (including a professional stint for a few years repairing, dare I sat it, Honda's!). So, I understand the last thing motorcycle enthusiast want to see posted on a forum are pics of things gone wrong.

fireflake: I considered parting the bike out piece-meal, but really prefer to sell it whole (if you can call that mess whole). If this effort does not produce results, I may take the route of selling individual parts.

I had a hard time trying to put a price on this basket case bike. Given the new carbs, ignition, rebuilt speedo, new tire, center stand, etc. (forgot to mention rear stainless fender is also new), plus new parts (including 2nd ignition), tools and what can be salvage from the engine (it was in fine working order) I thought $1,000 was reasonable. But I will entertain any reasonable offer.

Mike, I think this is a very fair price particularly because you have a title. Finding a replacement frame and other parts isn’t that bad. If it wasn’t for the fact that I live over 8,000 miles away I’d be round your house with a truck and a wad of cash.

Well, if you were closer ... I ALSO would give you $1000. Fair price for the bits ... and Title.

Thank goodness for that, now I can stop wracking my brains as to how my brother-in-Law in New Jersey could pick up the machine, register it in my name and send it to Hong Kong! Mike I hope you get completely healed and get back on a bike again. You can take mine for a spin the next time you are in Hong Kong.
