Hello everybody this is my first post . I was looking at 4 sale section regarding 1970 roadster are they rare - worth more than other nortons or what ? I have one no 20 m3s -138532 were there many made & are they more desirable than other models . Thanks

A Commando is a Commando if you like it and price is right you should have it to ride and enjoy ...if you are investor maybe talk to adviser ...mostly enthusiasts here on this site.... all Norton Commandos are desirable IMO.

Hey there Chocko, I would have to say that a commando, is a commando and each started out just about the same as the next one. Now however, the price (or value) can change a bunch based on how it is set up, one that was chopped might be less (usually is ..unless that's your thing, then it could be worth more). Most model changes were cosmetic with the MKIII being the most different (left foot shift & e-start). the 750's cylinder to crank case mounting bolt arrangement was changed to a more robust lay out with the 850 , the earlier isolastic set ups were shimmed but can be swapped out with newer vernier type if not already done by the previous owner, but there are so many aftermarket products and supplier support out there that all of the original short comings can be corrected. Bottom line in my book is if you like it and can afford it , get it, then personalize it after you've been riding it. IMHO :)

According to Norton buyers guides that I have seen, there is no difference in price for Commando models. Certainly, an individual may determine that he/she wants a specific year for there own reasons but I have never seen any information that shows that a '70 is worth more than some other year. As a bike to regularly ride, some would argue against any of the drum-braked models and not care to purchase one. OTOH, someone may specifically want a drum brake BECAUSE of the look. There are folks who would not buy a Commando OTHER than a Mark III and folks who would buy any Commando Except a mark III! So it's pretty much impossible to say model year X is worth more than model year Y.

No, the 1970 Roadster isn't a particularly rare model.

are they more desirable than other models.

From a seller's point of view? Yes, probably.

If buying?
Then, no.

I just looked up Kelly Blue Book for '68 to '72. Not sure I agree with year/model comparison as the Hi Rider seems to be higher value than a roadster. I might agree the Type S has more value than the other models in '69-'70 only due to lower production numbers. As others said most of the Commandos are about equal. If you want a model to ride rather than a museum piece the value is lower.

On this site in the 4 sale section there is a add for a 1970 which I asked the same question & I was told not to hijack the post .in Australia they seem to ask more for a mk3 but in general all the same price . I haven't seen a mk 3 for under $12000 & other models usually a grand or 2 less for a good rider ( polished ones are dearer).to me the one in the add is big dollars and I just mentioned I have a project I would sell and was told to do my research before selling it .I personally don't think a 1970 is worth more but if someone wants to give me extra that would be great ! When I work out how to use Dreambay I will list it and see what happens Thanks
