I am working on restoring my 70 750 R Commando. Got a new steel tank to replace the glass one. It is the metal flake Roman Purple and I am wondering what color the transfers were? Looking at my parts book there isn't any reference to the transfers. Looked at Bacons restoration book but it lacks specifics.
I think silver would look good against the purple. If anyone has pictures that would help me it would be appreciated.
Thanks for any advise you can give me.

IIRC, they should be Black outlined with Gold.

EDIT: For early '70 (like the 'S' model but with low piles), ROADSTER was spelled out in all capital letters. I have pictures for reference somewhere, and will try to find and post.

Goes without saying...do what you want.

1. silver decal started in 73... none before.
2. commando "R" and a 70 "roadster" are not the same. Which do you have?
3. As RSR mentioned only the early 1970 roadster has a 06-1699 decal "roadster" under the 750 commando decal.
DAMHIK... A factory new 70 roadster was my first bike.

OK, I'll bight. What is the difference between a R and a Roadster? I am always learning.
Any pictures?
Again, thanks for your knowledge.

I have never seen an R before. That is one strange looking bike with the Fastback pipes and oil tank and side covers and Roadster tank and seat.
I have been schooled.
So I will quit calling my bike an R and call it what it is a Roadster.

Tank decal is the same for the Roadster, side cover decal "Roadster" is 061699 listed as 1 item in the spares supplement for 1970 Commando all models. Not sure why they only list one and am not sure what the 061699 decal is. You can get the 69/70 Spares book pdf here http://www.eurooldtimers.com/eng/manual ... 1970-.html The supplements for R, S and 70 Roadster are in the back, but there seems to be some issues from what I've seen.

The R may have been a mis-mash of parts from the early fastback (side panels and silencers), the S and the Roadster (the halo headlamp, frame, rear mudguard and front tree) but I'm not certain about that, it just looks that way to me.

I have a June of 70 Roadster. Anybody know if it was early enough to have the "Roadster" sticker?

Yes it is! Mine is a May 70 Roadster delivered to Gus Kuhn in black.
My restoration went wrong and it came out as fireflake blue "S"....

I have a pair of the black/gold slide transfer decals I'm not going to use if anyone wants them.
