Almost have the G15 finished and would like to know if anyone has a part # for a battery that would fit the stock tray?? Thanks for your time. Chuck.

This could be useful to read: https://www.yuasabatteries.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/2020_Application_Guide_File.pdf

I wasn't sure my N15CS would even run more than 10 minutes after I hacked it together, and sorta skimped out on the smallest cheapest battery I could get - like $15. It does fine, but with the Wassell ignition and coils it doesn't need much. Not like it's an electric start. I have a bigger one that came with a freebie bike that will put in later, maybe. If you want it to fit perfectly, you can find the size in the guide above. I just improvised, securing it with large velcro straps. Now that it runs so well I'm gonna go back and spend some time on the finer points.

Original fitment was 2 off 6V Lucas MKZ9E batteries connected in series (no AMC part number, Lucas 54028263). In 1966 Lucas introduced a 12V battery (PUZ5A) for the '67 season, this was subsequently used for the P11 and Commando models. It's not listed for the late G15 models, obviously because it doesn't fit the tray heightwise. Rumours have it the twin 6V batteries had a very short service life.
Motobatt MB9U (12V) AGM appears to fit the carrier, toolbox needs to be opened slightly, it's still a tight fit. It stands 5 1/4 inches tall (+ padding).
There is also a Yuasa 12V battery which fits the footprint, but height fouls the toolbox, which has to be modified slightly according to HYCAM guru Anthony Curzon.

Dimensions:

2 off MKZ9E approximately : 4.75 in length x 3.5 in width x 5 in height.

PUZ5A : 5.25 in length x 3.0 in width x 5.5 in height.

MB9U : 5.35 in length x 3.0 in width x 5.24 in height (136 x 76 x 133 mm).

Yuasa candidates:
YB5L-B : 120 L x 60 W x 130 H (mm)
12N5-3B : 120 L x 61 W x 130 H (mm)

Hope this helps.

- Knut

Xtreme XT7-A, AGM, 5.35 x 2.99 x 5.24 in, almost identical to Motobatt MB9U.

Wow, you have really enlarged the opening in your toolbox!

Edit:
Yuasa YTZ7S, AGM, 4.44 x 2.75 x 4.13 in.

Well guys i ended up getting the Yuasa YTZ7S as it will fit with room for some padding, it's a AGM battery and that's what I've had good luck with. Thanks for all your help. Chuck.

Could you share some detail pictures of your oil filter location and plumbing please?

I'm having problems with my internet connection right now, I live in the middle of nowhere and sometimes it's slower than molasses in Winter.

Here we go!

Nicely done! That gives me something to ponder this winter while chasing oil leaks!
