G80CSR never existed. This will be a bog standard G80. J B Matchless were not always trustworthy advertisers!

I bought my last Beemer off a really nice guy in NY, while chatting I told him about my 54 Models 18S and he stopped and looked surprised. Asked me again about my AJS after repeating it, he looked at me, and while laffing told me he was the East coast IMPORTER for AJS!! How cool is that? He was emphatic.....he imported my bike! We had quite the chuckle!

1946 (?) to 1954, the american market was divided into the east coast distribution and the west coast distribution of AMC products. West coast distribution was run by the famous Frank N. Cooper. From 1955 to 1960, Cooper was the sole AMC agent for the US market. By mid-1960, AMC took over as sole distributor, running the "Indian Co." operation from their new facility in Springfield, MA. They were not successful at this, and by 1963 AMC imports were taken care of by the Berliner Corporation ("J.B. Matchless"), who also markedet Norton successfully.

While Cooper's story is well known, it would be interesting to know a bit more about the east coast distributorship.
