Just got this message from Gordon Humpherys - the tuner for Dave Watsons race bike in the photo below (with Gary Thwaites riding).
"Hi Jim, Just a short message to say I stripped Dave Watson's Motor, every thing is in perfect condition, no wear on camshaft, cam-followers, pistons, gudgeon pins or bore, so going to build it back up as is and hope for another good season of racing. Regards Gordon"
Usually its hard to keep an all out Norton together through a season of racing. And big bore Nortons can shake themselves to death. But the lighter pistons not only helped keep the bike together - it finished & won every race, and took the championship.
The bike uses a JS stage 3 cam and lightweight radiused lifters as shown below. Maney bottom end. It beats 4 cylinder vintage bikes and 8 valve Weslakes.
