Those would be Hepolite pistons. You can certainly fit new rings although .030 oversize may be hard to find anymore but you can always file fit a set of .040 OS. Jim

We saw a post that a fella found a vender with .030 over GPM pistons/rings still available. Are these the infamous comma shaped oil hole stress riser pistons shown? My second Combat came with that similar type but one came apart in first 3 wks while just easy riding around going almost 55 mph on low throttle level road. Trixie's recovery set back other projects for some years.

They do not look like the slotted "flip top pistons" that gave trouble.

Please,
If I find the OS + 0.40 Hepolite I must rebore the cylinders or can I leave them to +0.30?.
I could use other rings like HASTING, or GPM (i have a new 0.40 one)?.
Ciao.

Comnoz, is it possible and/or rational to file the .040 that he has to fit? I mean, they have to be check and fitted anyhow. Taking 5 to 10 thou off the ends will not create undue stresses will it?

Yes. It is very possible to cut .040 rings to fit a .030 bore. I have done it several times. I just finished cutting a set of .020 os rings to fit a pair of NOS .010 pistons yesterday.

I wouldn't recommend going more than .010 difference in bore size although I have gone .020 in a pinch and not had problems. Jim

You would need to check the measurements of the rings. They commonly used different oil ring groove depths. The different brands will interchange if the measurements are right. Jim
