I won a BSA-YAHOO!

Postby utahnorton » Sat May 07, 2011 8:40 am

For years, I've organized a raffle bike build for AHRMA for the Bonneville Vintage GP. We have built 4 CB-160s and this year we are building a BMW R75 Formula 750/BEARS bike. http://www.bonnevillevintagegp.com A bunch of buddies and I take an annual pilgrimage to San Jose, CA for the Clubman
All British Motorcycle Show and have been doing it for 10 years-nice break from our long Utah winters. This year we almost didn't make due to Caltrans
closing Donner Pass for a little bit of snow (in our view) and some racket where they make your buy chains for our snow tire equipped four wheel drive
SUVs and the trailer! After a 24 hour layover in Reno we finally made it there-luckily. I always buy raffle tickets for whatever bike the NCBSA Club
puts together since I know what an effort it is to put a bike together to raffle off. Imagine my surprise when I found out I actually one! It is a a 1969
BSA Firebird Scrambler built to a 100 point restoration by famed BSA builder Don Harrell and Mickey Peters. :D I've never won anything in my life and
after fighting a rare form of cancer this past year it makes it particurly sweet and hope it means a big turning point as 2010 was a pretty crappy year for me. So looking foward to a great year-managed to race at Willow a couple weeks ago and pulled a 3rd in Formula 750 on the Norton (out of eight) and two 4th places on Sunday in Formula 750 and BEARS. Anyway-heres a picure of my new bike.

I've never won anything in my life either, terrible turn of events syndrome I believe, but congrats on the Bezza and especially on getting past the "C". Hope things are turning around for ya.

Nice!
You probably want to go into town, and find a up to date Jap Bike store,
With a full spares department, a clean workshop, and kean young mechanics.
And ask them if theres a Grumpy Old Bloke out in the Hills, who knows how to fix Real Motorcycles.

Congrats on winning over cancer, as for the bike, sell it, they were ugly back then and they are still ugly

Jean

PS Don't take this the wrong way, it is just my opinion on that model and the jealousy of seeing someone else winning something

Congrads! I had bought a couple raffle tickets for that bike too. Sounds like you deserve it, I never used to think BSA's of that era were that pretty but they have really grown on me and now I think they look very cool. Ps. I was at Willow that weekend, lots of Manx, 7R and other cool old racers. I must have seen your races, what does your race bike look like?

Thanks Guys-It's my first BSA. It sounds great but really haven't had a chance to ride it much-it was snowing here yesterday! Here's a photo of the Commando
I raced at Willow. I bought it as a 1970 Dunstall 810 in 1972-since converted to a 750 for Formula 750/BEARS.

People have been known to put Commando Cranks in those BSAs , Combined with a 750 barrel, and offset crankpins . . .
The one rule to the exception , is theres the exeption to each rule .

Hey Tom, you’re ready to grill salmon now you can only do that with a 69 ya know.
BSA's never learned to share you know so change the oil in the primary very often.
And if they geared it stock then you could win money pulling stumps. BSA’s love RPM’s
1963 Super Rocket, 1965 650 Star, 1967 Lighting, 1968 Thunderbolt, 1968 Tr6C, 1969TR6C, 1960 6T, 1972 Commando, 1974 Commando way too many BSA's see me at http://decentcycles.com
