My husband has a 68 Norton Commando that was his dad's. He is wanting to sell it, but we do not know how much to sell it for. We put it on craig's list, and are receiving calls/emails of interest but we are not sure what price to ask for. Can anyone help? The pictures do not have this, but we did get a new front tire for it recently. We know it probably isn't worth a lot, but we don't want to sell it for too little. Thank you everone for your help.

Frame hacked. 1975 Norton parts on it (rear wheel, timing side cover of engine...) What's the serial number on the engine or frame?

First guess would be under $1000. Maybe not that.

The engine and disc brake rear wheel appear to be very serviceable 1975 Mark III parts.

It is NOT a '68.

Changing your craigslist ad will help you sell it.

For the right buyer, needing those specific bits, it could be worth over $1,000.

In any case, the engine is worth several hundred dollars AT A MINIMUM; rear wheel & brake easily worth a couple hundred more, and the fork lowers and other bits a couple hundred more again.

The frame could possibly have a new rear loop welded up and still be serviceable, but photos do not show how extensive any welding might be, so there's no telling.

I know you can The thing is as it is the bike is worth less than if you take it all apart and sell everything separately, the downside to that is you do have to take it apart and put everything up on e-bay where you may get a good price or not depending on the whims of times (people need, want or not). One week it seems everyone wants a specific part and the following week, it goes out for nothing. As for Craigslist, polluted by lowballs, if you want to get rid of it quick, price it accordingly (less than $1000, say $999). The best thing would be to mandate someone who knows about motorcycles, have him take it apart and list the parts on e-bay, give him something for his trouble (a percentage is best, gives incentive) and be happy with whatever you get.

Anyway, good luck whatever you do.

My stack of play money is totally depleted.

The next expenditure is for the bits needed to complete a trade-in that I'll be picking up in L.A., along with some of the very last bits from Kenny Dreer.

Once the Silver monoshocker sells, I might have a few spare bucks, but they'll have to go toward a Triumph Bonneville project I've been putting off for 6 years.

Otherwisse, i would have picked it up yesterday.

It's not so much sarcasm, it's that the bike has been hacked almost beyond recognition and the only things that have any worth are the motor and trans, and possibly the rear wheel and brake. The rest is pretty much junk and you'll get less for it whole than if you part out the good stuff and throw the rest in a dumpster.

Never throw scrap metal in a dumpster, you can get gas money at the salvage year.
