Not that I am anal or anything, but the washers on my 69 seem to be a smaller pattern than I can buy at the local hardware store. The 1/4"id is 9/16"od, the 5/16"id is 5/8od, the 3/8id is 3/4od there are no 7/16 that I can find, and the 1/2id is 7/8od. I ordered a bit of stuff from OB to mask for powder coat this week and the used ones were correct size, but the new SS ones were the same size as my local hardware store, IE. the 1/4" ones had an od of 5/8 and the 1/2" were 1 1/16od. I did find McMaster has the washers in SS in the correct Norton OD size. I was going to order a bunch of them for my final build, but I will end up with a bunch of extras because they only come in lots of 10 or 50, however, the total bill for all the washers I need will be about $40. I can deal with that.

Anyone else have this issue, or is there somewhere to buy the Norton sized washers singly at a reasonable price?

If anyone wants the McMaster numbers, I can list them.

I found bike wreckers helpfull with odd size washers etc. They usually through them away, and they are better quality than new general purpose washers, nuts and bolts.
The ones available from hardwares are pretty crappy.
I had the old ones replated.

What you are looking for is probably SAE washers. They are smaller overall diameter than standard USS washers.

Yes, I've seen the SAE washers, close, but they are still not as small od as the ones I have on the 69.

The SAE washers are probably about as close as you're going to find, unless you can find some metric washers that are equivalent. Even if you order Andover Norton parts from your favorite parts dealer, the washers you get may not be quite the same as the originals.

Aircraft spruce lets you order individual items. They have a minimum but it's not high. Great source for nut and bolts.

I thank everyone for their input. However the AN washers are actually smaller OD than the originals on my 69 and the SAE and USS are all too large OD. For example the 1/4" AN washer is 1/2" OD instead of 9/16. I'm not complaining, just being anal. I actually have found dimensioned flat washers at McMasters which seem to be just about right, except for the 1/2 x 7/8, which is thinner than I like. It takes a bit of looking to find them and the site is not easy to navigate. I only need 6 of the 1/2" though, and I may just plate the ones I have. I'll get a bunch and see how it goes and report later.

As far as nuts and bolts, the boltdepot seems to have the best deals for SS anyhow unless you are into large quantities.

Finally ordered stainless washers from McMaster. If anyone else is as anal as me to get the washers the correct size, I found these at the McMaster catalogue. It took me a couple of hours going through the catalogue to find what I needed. The USS and SAE stainless washers that you will get in general are all too large OD compared to the original washers. The AN washers are all too small OD compared to the originals. I found some dimensioned washers at McMaster and ordered them. In general I found that the USS and SAE stainless washers were all very thin, on the order of .05", so I was looking for something more like the originals, in the range of .06 for the 1/4" and .08 for the 1/2". This is what I got with the catalogue numbers in comparison to the originals.

Cost me $42.85 including shipping, acceptable to me for what I wanted plus these SS washers are all a tiny bit thicker, not thiner than the originals, not a big issue with me, at least not all .05" which is very thin to me.

The picture shows the USS washers on the bottom, originals in the middle, and McMaster SS washers on the top.

Couldn't you have just punched holes in quarters at those prices?

On a serious note, good work and thanks for posting. After 25 years in hibernation I'm finding out how things cost now a-days. I tried to by some brass bar stock 1' X 1" X 1/2" today to make some soft jaws for my vice. I couldn't even find any but everywhere I went I was told I'd be looking at $15.00 or more. I'd been thinking a few bucks.

Yes, I may have paid in general .25 per washer, but they were the correct ones as close as possible, however, I paid $2.68 for a set of 12 ss socket head 1/4-20 bolts from boltdepot, and if I had gotten them from OB or FairSpares, it would have been $8 or $9 bucks US. So you pays your money and you takes your chances and do what you have to, to get where you are going.
