warning lights on the top of the headlight

Postby MATTT » Sat Jan 09, 2010 1:24 pm

hi again
been working through the electrics today after fitting a new battery

found the ignition switch had a problem,it only worked on parklights or the 2nd click - lights on and ignition on

took it apart and found a rivet through contact on the 1st click position had broken and dropped into the lock part

fixed that part but hoping for a bit more info please-
the 2 lights on the top of the headlamp both dont work

i know the left red one is ignition and charging but theres no mention of the other one in the manual and i cant find it on the circuit diagram

is it a neutral light? and where does it connect to,one wire was loose inside the headlight and i cant see that wore on the circuit diagram either

going back to the charge light, the bulb and supply is there so ive got to get the tank off to check the warning light assimilator-big name for a basic little item ! :)

not got round to drianing the oils and getting the front brake sorted yet , still it a long time until summer

cheers

Only the 850 MkIII model has a neutral light.

It's the main (high) beam warning light (Green).

It should be connected to the Blue/White (UW) wire which runs from the handlebar headlamp beam selector switch to the headlamp bulb main beam filament.

And it should be on your circuit diagram ("Main beam warning light")?

Eliminating the warning light assimulator(sp) and a half dozen other useless electrons and after upgrading to the electronic ignition, I decided to make it my way. I drive around town alot and finally found excellent oem Lucas turn signals. They are so pristine I was compelled to put them on. On the headlamp shell I left the center light amber for high beam and flasher, made the left lamp red for left turn and right lamp green for right turn. I still forget to turn my turn signals off some time, but not nearly as often.
