Thanks for the head-up! The one offered by eBay member "metalmorphic" is in stainless steel and granted, it looks good, but the price tag is rather high.
Initially I had envisaged a guard made of mild steel, to be painted. I know Norvil sells them. No used sample out there?

Cheers,

Knut S.

You might want to get in touch with Colin Kelly, a very talented fellow who makes reproduction tinware for English motorcles. Here is a link to his website. http://www.customclassiccycleparts.com/

Thanks Stephen and Matt!

Matt: The item was located in Australia - too far away and costly to ship to Europe, superior part though.
Stephen: I will give Colin a try as I have a forwarding agent in the US.

Thanks again.

Just a heads up about metalmorphic, the guy on ebay in the UK: The finish and quality of his stainless chain guards is extremely nice! But, I bought one for my Featherbed Atlas 2 years ago, and it didn't fit at all. Not even close. Mounting holes didn't even match up. I ended up having to cut the sides completely off and make my own mounting brackets. And although it looks great now, it was a lot of work especially considering the money I paid for it.
I don't have any experience with him in regards to the S type chainguard for a Commando, so I can't say that it won't fit, but figured I'd offer up the info from my own experience.

Colorado Norton Works still offers one in bare steel that you'd have to chrome or paint. $119

I put the metalmorphic on a 1970 roadster, fitted, no problem and looks awesome.

i bought one from metalmorphic as well. Gorgeous piece. Needed some bending in place to fit right, but overall I was pleased.

CNW has apparently done a run of their chain guard in stainless. See Skyguys' build thread, he put one on his bike. They don't show it on their web site, so I don't know what the situation is.

Those come from some place in Canada (can't remember the name). I think they're chromed, aren't they?

I dunno...here is the comment from his thread:

but you had to go and put that 69/70 chain guard on.

Actually, it's one of the first batch of new style all SS polished CMW products. I think it is better than the two piece OEM guard that also rubs the chain. IMHO.

I got a chromed one from Burtons Bits delivered to the US for about $130. Fit fine, not as nice on the inside as the stainless ones I'm sure. I'm sure most of the used ones are all beat up at this point.
