I'm digging ino the transmission on my '74 Daytona to replace the layshaft bearings. The sprocket cover plate behind the clutch appears to have been glued in by a previous owner/mechanic. What is the best way to get it out with out breaking anything or setting fire to the bike ?

On a semi related note, the thrust washer behind the clutch bearings has the inside diameter is worn oval. Clearly that is a problem, are there other problems that I should be looking for ? How did the PO get it out of place so badly ?

Remove the 6 screws and tap it out from the sprocket side.

It's a precision fit.

Pretty obvious once you mention it. Some how I expected unit construction to be put together like a Honda or a Bultaco. Looking underneath, I see that is not the case...
