Many on the site are aware I have been tinkering with a T150V for some years now.. a ragged collection of bits sourced world wide ~

Well its finally coming together ~ Since then a lot more progress ~ tune - carbs - timing - ect ect ~ I've made since that first start as featured below ~

There aren't too many exhaust sounds that are as nice, or nicer, than the Triumph/BSA triples' mechanical banshee howl...

Gotta love it!

NIce one Stuart, those triples do have a nice howl when wound out.
I aslo like the bit in the first vid where your camera person is dying of carbon monoxide poisoning while you caringly point out how good the oil pressure is.

I can think of one...
You probably want to go into town, and find a up to date Jap Bike store,
With a full spares department, a clean workshop, and kean young mechanics.
And ask them if theres a Grumpy Old Bloke out in the Hills, who knows how to fix Real Motorcycles.

The only thing I really miss about my two 72's is that sound of snarling power at 5K and up. Excellent job and don't hurt your face smiling while in the power band!!

That's a Yamaha XS750 triple tree ( 1978 about ) , with 1983-4 XJ turbo Yamaha 650/ 750 forks.. 36 mm tubes.

Image

The head shaft was extended and re-enforced ~ but after I scored another Yamaha front end but off hand I cannot recall what model ( it has the system adjustment etc mounted on the lower forks ~ )

The point being that the centre shaft on the later is all be a perfect fit length wise ~ so really no mod would need to be made to the shaft . But the bearing seats have to knocked out of the Triumph head and two steel O rings machined to accommodate the tapered Yamaha bearings.

Really not that difficult ~

I have been told this will result in much crisper corner handling but may ~ result in some issue at top speed, because the fork are more in align with the steering head than the original Triumph forks were / are in relation to the steering head.

I have a steering damper which I will fit ~

( A mate in A.C.T. has a same era Suzuki front end in his Trident and was the inspiration for mine ~ )

Really on the home straight now ~ But ~

When I went to start the bike again , the ignition was DEAD .. NO spark

Remove the ignition Tri - Spark module ~ shyte design puts a red LED INSIDE ~

Run essential tests ~ LED working as stipulated ~

(Gives up in frustration ~ Monday )

Tuesday . remove electrical panel .. WHO ~ TF designed this nightmare ~ all but impossible to dismantle with oil lines.. Side panels fitted ~

Redesign set .. to allow easier removal ~ And fit Tri-Spark as suggested on TOL ~ on seat .. File notch in Tri-Spark panel to allow LED to be seen at ALL times ~

Image
'
'Trace fault.. as there is NO spark but Tri-Spark is OK..??

Only common link common earth ~ trace earth lead ~ FFS ~ "dry" insulated solder joint to coil earths ~

JUST DEMONSTRATES>> LESS PACE>> more care to details

Repair ~

Refit all and Sundry ~

Prime ~ fires..

Runs fine ~ AND sounds OH soooo Sweet ~ that glorious Triple raucous crackle ~ Even idling reasonably .. without fully tune ~

(Chain guard seems to be OK if not very fine tolerance with the O ring chain. Clutch needs adjustment!)

That's the first complaint I've ever heard about a Tri Spark ignition. Is that an early example, and the design has changed?

Grandpaul

Not so much a complaint ~ but an observation ` (Perhaps my initial reaction is / was a tad harsh !

(I bought the unit at a Triples Down Rally in 2008 from direct hand to hand from Steve (Kelly) ~ )

I am already very impressed with the performance of the unit.. Never seem the Boyer on the Commando THAT keen to fire up ~

IMO perhaps be a better option to have the LED visible ~ after all if one has a frustration as I did of a failed ignition it would be an asset to have that Test light visible without having to pull the unit off, would it not ?

BTW equally impressive is the new battery I bought for the Trident ~ a perfect fit ~ Motobatt MB9u ~ optional L & R terminals ~ heavy duty - suitable for starter applications and a great price at $68 AUD. (Available at bike shop near you !!)

Well today we rolled the beast out and fired it up ~

Then started test rides across the two blocks which make up the front yard ~ then instead of waiting for Merete to come home from work and vid the moment ; I off down the road ~ could not help myself ~ lol

So successful first ride but no video... Adjust the clutch again ~ Then started raining again ~ So hopefully put in another ride tomorrow and video the second ride ~ l

The quality of the vid suffered alittle as M reformatted the thing.. but you get the idea..
