I have a 66 Atlas and I need a little help with. Of course it has the feather bed frame as well as the roadholder forks. However I have two questions. I want the bike to ride nice, and perform well. What modern tire sizes can I put on this? I know the front is a 19inch wheel. Also, can I just throw a tube in anything on the market out there or is there more to it than that? Any help, or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you asking front tyre or rear?
There are a whole range of tyres available now depending on what type of riding ability you have whether you want high mileage or………
Tubes are a matter of choice, depending on how deep you posket is and if you don’t want to buy the far eastern rubbish. Look up the Commando section;

I want a front and rear. I have been riding for 17 years, and I live in the mountains. So a lot of curvy fun stuff is right in my back yard. I am just not sure how wide and tall I can go on the modern tire sizes. I figure to stay with a name brand, Dunlop, Avon, Michelin, Metzler, Bridgestone, etc, but I am open to suggestions. I just don't want to drop the coin and have the thing rub.

For grip, and this comes with a racing compound the Metzler ME1 on rear with equitant ME33 with a Com K competition compound on front, but the front race compound has to be specially ordered and costs about 35% more than standard.
For long life; Continental TK17 on rear but not any Con on front-don’t use them there!
Use Avon Pirelli, Dunlop e.t.c

I don't recommend one simply as I don't know if it has the same hard wearing compound as the rear. One of my friends fitted one and complained like hell because it slid everywhere, whether that was it needed the release agent scrubbing off I couldn’t say. The basic rule of thumb when riding a solo motorcycle is that they countersteer, and you want the gripest tyre compound you can get on the front,- the rear wheel slides I can live with, even if they scare me sometimes.
