The fine folks from the VME brought some very nice Norton motocrossers. They were absolutely stunning, sounded ferocious and went like hell.

I managed to putt around the track too. Sure I probably got third in my class, and there may have only been three in the class…

Behind that mask it a face frozen in sheer terror. :D
You probably want to go into town, and find a up to date Jap Bike store,
With a full spares department, a clean workshop, and kean young mechanics.
And ask them if theres a Grumpy Old Bloke out in the Hills, who knows how to fix Real Motorcycles.

Interesting pics, thanks. Good to see them out being run.
Did the Nortons go, or just for display ?

Those Nortons look awesome! I don't think I'd be strong enough to hang on to one of those beasts though.

I sold my Sherpa T this spring, and currently have no trials bike to ride. I didn't ride it at all last year so thought I'd offer it up for sale. Somebody bought it, and now I have regrets. Might get another vintage trials bike one of these days.

In the meantime, I have this:

Image

It was cheap and it looks real nice with the new plastic and all. The beauty is only skin deep though. It's going to need quite a bit of work before it's ready for the track. So far I've fitted it with a new Wiseco piston, had the cylinder bored to match, got the stripped drain plug fixed, got the Konis rebuilt and put back on the bike right side up (they don't work upside down), and fitted a new Uni air filter. Much remains to be done, but I should be ready to test run the bike soon.

I could start a build thread on it if anyone is interested...

Cool. I drew this in 1972, dreaming of one day owning one (sorry it's so light)-

I'd be interested in a build thread, and you can always cross-post at the Vintage Bikes Forum

Heh, you think that Maico will be more forgiving than a Norton?

I can't believe the Sherpa T is gone, there are some great Nationals in your area (two in CO and one in WY).

I am think about selling the Pursang, I could use the money to keep the Norton going.

Oh Swoosh, I never really had a strong "want" for a dirt bike but looking at that black Norton got my "want, need, gotta have one" blood going. I have a group of friends who go for these long off road rides through some local hills mostly on fire roads and easy going trails & It would be SO cool to show up for a ride on one of those sweet looking Nortons. More pictures please.

They are both pretty sexy! It is pretty easy to look at this stuff and think "woulda, coulda, shoulda...". I once had a Penton 250 that I let go for a song. I shoulda known what I had, I coulda kept it and I woulda been really glad now!
Oh well,
Thanks for sharing (I think)

Check out VMX Magazine, out of Australia.
Especially issue #2, #7 and #40.
Issue # 2 Has a photo of my old 75 CCM that has been restored.
