speedometer gearing

speedometer gearing

Postby chrisf1 » Tue May 02, 2017 11:43 am

Hi everyone I am having a problem with my speedo reading it is running from the back wheel on a triumph conical hub and I estimate it to be under reading by about a 1/3rd unfortunately the bike is not with me at present so I cannot give you the number of the chronometric head I am using, it has always run from the rear wheel but previously a Norton domminator 99 rear wheel I am led to believe there are only 2 types of gearing for this so whichever I have I need the other please confirm I am correct with this or other suggestions welcomed many thanks Chris

There were at least seven different ratios, also 'reversing' and 'non-reversing' versions of speedo drive gearbox but, from the limited amount of information you've given, I'd guess the Triumph conical hub drive gearbox is likely to be 1.25:1 ratio, whereas the Dominator 99 drive gearbox was probably 2:1.
