I have a spare sprocket in my spares box, and some 10-32 hardware, so I just tried it out.

Worked just fine.

Any wobble? I can check later tonite or tomorrow.
You probably want to go into town, and find a up to date Jap Bike store,
With a full spares department, a clean workshop, and kean young mechanics.
And ask them if theres a Grumpy Old Bloke out in the Hills, who knows how to fix Real Motorcycles.

Nothing really noticable, and in any event nothing a little blue loctite wouldn't cure methinks.

Noticed it's much easier to start it into the rear side of the sprocket. Perhaps the "front" threads get a bit buggered (or at least, mine did) from repeated efforts to insert the right way. That would make an already frustrating process that much worse.

That's how mine was- the first 1 or 2 threads were messed up.
I got some 10-32 screws and it's finally done!! Mission accomplished.

My last question- I tightened the sprocket nut as tight as I could, but I doubt it's the recommended 80ft/lbs. That's a lot! Will this come back to haunt me later, or should I undo it and find someone stronger than me?

80 lbs is too much I reckon. Maybe 60.

Isn't that the one (or one of them) that they revised the torque spec on - as in, substantially lower?

I'll see if I can find that one and revert, or perhaps others can chime in.

EDIT, no I was thinking about the clutch/mainshaft nut. As you were. From Old Britts:

"CLUTCH TO MAINSHAFT NUT:

"The factory torque setting for this nut is 70 ft lb., however this torque setting runs the risk of breaking the clutch locating circlip (06-0752). It is recomended that you use locktight on this nut and torque to 35 or 40 ft lb. If you do want to use 70 ft lb. you should use a new circlip each time this nut is removed. "

I do believe something on the order of 80 lbs-ft is correct for the sprocket nut. EDIT #2 - Old Britts confirms.

With blue loctite, IMHO.

PS, impact wrench, judiciously applied, good for this application. Repeat, JUDICIOUSLY APPLIED.

Yup, caught that after posting. All I could remember is it was SOMETHING I had to deal with when removing the primary side.
