I'm looking for some feedback on using the stock shift lever rotated backwards with rear set pegs. I messed with mine a little and it's not obvious that it would work very well. A picture would be great. Thanks in advance.

I had a reversed gear lever on my cafe racer. I had to bend the shaft out to an angle of about 45 degrees and then the toe-shaft also had to be bent, all to clear the kickstart lever, I also had to play about a bit by moving both the kickstarter and the gear lever on their respective splines to get the ergonomics right for my riding position. I found it to be very positive in action and the one down - rest up gear change was the same as my other bikes which was good. A friend of mine with larger feet used to inadvertently knock it into gear every time he tried to kick it, but this never happened to me. Why not try it with an old gear lever that needs chroming and see if you like it, a new one would need rechroming with all of the bending involved.

You have to bend out the shift lever until it clears the kickstart lever. Also I turned the kickstart lever forward to clear my shin-bone. I didn't like one down - rest up so I changed the camplate to one up - rest down again:

The '74 850 John Player Norton had a shift lever already bent outward and attached backward. Those are still available from spares sources. My JPN had a linkage type rearset when I bought it. I replaced that with the original part from Fair Spares.

Both Fair Spares and Norvin sell these "reversed" levers under part # 06-3944. They also have the Ampmeter gage holder as used on the production racers that I want to use for my oil pressure gage! Norvil sells them in 4, 5 or 7 inch reach sizes. Not cheap but it is made in stainless.

Hi there , if my memory is good there was a topic about changing the camplate and some people saying that they just pull the gear out and push it the other side.......some saying it's not true , and thus you must change the notches !!!!! any ideas??
