Praise for Trispark

Postby dero » Thu Jan 12, 2012 9:05 pm

Just wanted to let you know about the exeptional service I recieved from Trispark .
I purchased a new ignition from them aprox 2 years ago , and didnt get around to fitting the new motor , and it , until just recently.
The unit failed [ probably my own fault , due to exessive heat ] I spoke to Steve and explained the problem , and he offered to replace the unit , free of charge , even under these circumstances .
I was amazed , I didnt think that kind of service existed anymore .
The bike runs like a clock with the new ignition , literally one kick and idle .
I cannot praise the product , or Steve's commitment , enough .
Thanks Steve .

Hi Steve,
I'd be interested in hearing the exessive heat story and why you think it could be your fault.

I was running the new motor stationary in the shed to run in the new cam , I did have a fan on it , but the motor got very hot .
Every thing was new , motor , carbs, ignition , so I didn't trust it enough to head out on the road . In hindsight I would not do it this way again .
When tested on the bench , the indicator light was shot , but the ignition worked . Aparently the LED fails under exessive heat . Diagnosis was that the ignition was probably failing when the motor was hot .
As mentioned the motor got VERY hot . I do not doubt Steve's diagnosis .
After a few hundred miles , the motor seems to run well , I hope I haven't done any damage .

An ignition unit which might malfunction due to overheating if one gets caught in a traffic jam on a hot day makes the good old Boyer start to sound like an unbelievably reliable piece of kit.

Now THAT is funny!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++

you say the LED light "failed" because of excessive heat

apparently the trispark also "failed", the entire sealed unit failed, and not just the timing firing light

and Steve, the owner of trispark stated that yes, it did fail because it got too hot?

Do I have these facts correct?

Trispark have a great rep on triples but maybe our shaky, hot running old steeds are too much for it. Sounds like customer durability testing at customer cost. Great idea to have it all in one package but maybe trying to do too much. After all its no big deal to locate the control box remotely. My Pazon has been fine although one coil did fail after 20 mins running. That was before they took off to NZ.

I stick by my original praise , The unit failed under unusual and exessive circumstances , nothing like idleing at the lights for a while .
The new unit is functioning perfectly , as do a lot of others on the road , from what I hear .
2 year no arguement warranty , perfect starting , perfect idle .
I respect your opinions and value all forum feedback .
I remain a very happy customer, by personal experience , until proven otherwise .

well OK

i put over 30 K on my first boyer ( w/ a complete motor/bike rebuild etc etc - and complete lack of proper maintenance in retrospect ) -

damn thing only last about 22 yrs - replaced by a pazon , which took about 20 minutes to install - sadly Ive only got about 7K on it now - no problems - runs good, starts, idles

wish i had trispark ttoo - they sound great

I had two failed Boyers in just under 25K , hence the change .
I will report back good bad or otherwise as the miles go on .

My 74' Commando currently has a Boyer and it will be replaced with something else this Spring...probably a Tri-Spark. I know how my Boyer performs....I'll take a chance with another brand! :(

just a thought here. 2 failed boyers and the new ignition failed also. is something else going on here? as i've said before, ANY after market ignition should be installed only after making sure all is well in the electric department and getting your carburation figured out, so you are not trying to troubleshoot 2 separate problems when things don't work as advertised

Haven't posted in a while. Just thought I'd throw my two cents worth in on Tri-Spark. I've had mine in the '73 Commando 750 for about 3 years now. Bike runs great. Starts first kick 90% of the time. Second kick the other 10%. Smooth, low idle. Easy installation. Absolutely no problems. What's not to like? I'll be ordering a Tri-Spark for the '74 Commando 850 soon. Does anyone no if Tri-Spark makes a system for a '78 Bonneville?
