Opinions?

Postby prmurat » Tue Oct 25, 2011 1:14 pm

First let me explain why I did post in this category... the bike I want/will, maybe, buy will have her 70 b'dat next year so it can be Classic even if brand new???/
I've been selling all of my heavy bikes (and most of the ones with front drum) cause of my screwed arm, and I am waiting to see my 09 Vmax go to buy a new ....
Ural gear up/sidecar. My wife is very vehement on her "no dirt" policy arguing that my shoulder/arm could not take the smallest shock and it seems that my CA/UT/AZ/NV fire roads/trails are over!
But on a 3 wheelers I have a way to bypass the diktat...
I've been looking at Ural for almost 30 years and I've seen a piece of crap getting better every year: slow, slow, slow but attractive and made with better parts and less problems it seems.
The idea would be to use my trailer (made for dirt bikes...and breakdowns originally) to go places, maybe a nice hotel (camping if I can really push it...), with the dog (important!) and from there explore dirt roads.
Anyone has one of this ex USSR toy?
Thanks.

Can-am Spyder with electric shift (+$1,500.00), minimal hand controls and a comfy pillion (she will like it). I am NOT a Urinal-fan (and I used to be a dealer).

In the beginning the "quality-control-inspector" at Urinal was A DOG!! (his name was Sargeant-something-or-the-other) and if he did not ike the bike it went from the assembly-line to the repair shop. The quality sure seems to be improving but for my $ it just ain't there yet.

I was just looking at a Spyder RT-S today, how do you like yours?

Phillipe, have you ridden much on an Outfit, They take a bit of steering.
I have a pretty weak shoulder and I have trouble steering a Sidecar Outfit.
How about a conventional trike.
I know that some are frowned upon, but hey if you're still out there having fun,
isn't that the main thing.

I need something to go on fire roads, un paved roads etc.

The Spyder is the only contraption I can use to go on long trip with my wife: we only go on vacations if it is on bike!
I can ride small bikes alone but not two up.
I have only 3500 miles on my Spyder : already a few limp mode & check engine lights on; a brand new dashboard and throttle body... It's very comfortable, can be fun on twisty roads, a gas guzzler, never relaxing and not that powerful !
A Ural cannot be more difficult to ride than a Spyder.
Trikes ??? No thanks! I tried eons ago, with good two arms a Servicar HD and a vw : never been more scared!

I've been able to go on long rides on my T500 (sold now: front drum needed to much pressure!), XT 250 (perfect with its disc and cv carb), S2 Kawie (will install the later disc on it). I am pushing away the time I will finally try the Commando... Scared it won't work!!
