Well if a picture is worth 1000 words then there is approximately a million. I tried to get shots of everything. There were even a set of metal BSA side cover emblems in the box. I have no idea what model that are too, but if you know please feel free to tell me. I appreciate any advice you guys could give me.

Nice find for $800.

Before you do anything, rub lots of clean oil onto the chromework, to halt the moisture's work.

.Bit of a shame to mess with it  You might give it culture shock . :P .

Touring spec looks rather useful , with all those bicycle trained kids about , you could
emulate the Royal Marines and fit 20 people on / over it with the gear on it now . :P

A mechanical service / overhaul , to get the ' working parts ' in top trim would be demanding
enough of time and effort . treating the rest to arrest corrosion would leave it as it's allways
been .And devour sufficent capital .Also servicable and ripe for the cosmetic tart up later .

Tjhe best laid plans can falter , keeping to essential priorities is more liable to see it finished
and in use .Youre not afflicted with concentrics , so dont try that dodge .

Full front end overhaul would be a good place to start , once completed achive another stage .
This sees it progressing in digestable lumps. if youre doing it youreself and want it on the road
in a season or two .

Checking insides of tanks prior to use is sensible , a torch and dentists mirror or w,h,y, . :?:

A lot of rodders are retaining the original petainia , as ' its only original once '.notta bad idea .

Inhibiting inside of frame for corrosions adviseable , theres alkaline rust arrestors around for
the rest . Looks ideal for heading for the wilds / mountains as shes set up . Fishing anyone .

I'll come around and give you a hand . It should only take a couple of weeks .
The one rule to the exception , is theres the exeption to each rule .

Heavily edited post due to it being my first cup of coffee and somehow missing TWO pages of posts. Oh well. Cool project. Lots of nice bits.

If the motor is seized up, get some fluid in there and let it soak. Acetone/ATF in 50-50 was recommended in other threads here so I used it on an 850. Left it sit for 3 months while I did other stuff and the motor turned over for me while taking it apart. Turned the stator into cheese tho, so you might skip the primary unless it looks like the Sahara in there. I am pretty sure it helped when it came time to get screws out.

What happened to the basket case? If you don't want it, somebody here probably would!

The cylinders are fixed and ready to be picked up. The head should be ready too. So stay tuned for new pictures. He bored out the cylinders and lined them with steel. Then put in new pistons and rings and matched them up.

Getting closer. The cylinders and head are now done and look fantastic. There is an old Norton factory racer here in Forest City that did the work. I think you can really tell he enjoys his job. He even honed each piston to each cylinder and then marked them for me.

Those do look good, I have a '69 basket case that has a messed up set of cylinders, and was thinking I'd have to replace them. Could you PM his info to me so that i can get in touch with him and see if he can fix mine too. Thanks in advance, Cj
