Soren, A very good friend of mine, well known photographer Benno Grosse, had one of these with a sidecar attached and used to ride it around Hong Kong with his family in the chair. He also had a Norton 850 Interstate and various other classic bikes. Sadly he passed away a few years ago, he was originally from Denmark and was a real bike enthusiast. I will see if I can find a photo or two of him and the bike. Incidentally isn't the correct collective terminology 'one Nimbus, several Nimbi'?
Regards,
Dave

Soren,

Hi Andy
They are really reliable. The pictures show the 3 solo, i have also 2 with sidecars. They are the first i rebuild, about 20 years ago.
Have now been used every summer, wife and 3 children, everywhere in Europe between Nice and Northern Ireland, Scotland and Shetland Islands.
So it works. The reason why i have the 3 solo is only because the children are grown up, so we drive all 5 :D
Come to Denmark and have a look.

I recall seeing an article about a guy who rode a Nimbus around the world. There were interesting pictures of his bike in Japan.

Hi
Yes it was Kim Scholer who send his Nimbus bike to Japan and drove around for some weeks. But more interesting, at the moment 2 creazy Norwegians are on Nimbus tour, "The dumb way round". At the moment they are in Vermont, and i expect to meet them in Cuba about 4 weeks from now. See more in their blog at www.kccd.no. And see also www.nimbus.dk.

Soren,
many thanks for the blog-link! It is really funny and interesting to read!
I am jellous you soon meet them! Must be good to talk to guys with this special sence of humor. What have I laughed!

"The reason we will circle The Earth going eastwards is that thereby we will slow Earth’s rotation – a bit – with the power of our motorcycles. This again slows down our personal ageing process in that the days then will be longer and we get to use them better. At night when the bikes are parked the effect is not in effect, but this matters little, as by then we are asleep. The only major problem will arise when we cross the Bering Strait and the dateline, and we lose a full day."

Fantastic. I love them.

You probably want to go into town, and find a up to date Jap Bike store,
With a full spares department, a clean workshop, and kean young mechanics.
And ask them if theres a Grumpy Old Bloke out in the Hills, who knows how to fix Real Motorcycles.

I think those bikes are so old you can just whittle parts from a fallen branch on the side of the road.

Press Release- We'll be represented at Cycle Worlds Show in NYC January 22-24

We're preparing for the Cycle World's motorcycle show in NYC 22-24th of January. We got invited to have a slideshow and exibit the bikes. Not sure if the organizer has really thought through all potential consequences of inviting us, but we'll do our best to behave.
See press release below and feel free to forward to who ever may be interested.

Tormod

Press Release:
It’s a pleasure to report that that the infamous Round the World Trip ”KCCD09 -The Dumb Way Round” will be represented at Cycle World's International Motorcycle Show at the Javits Convention Center in New York, January 22-24, 2010.

The witless and fearless Norwegians Klaus Ulvestad and Tormod Amlien are currently halfway through circumnavigating the world on two Nimbus motorcycles with sidecars, made in 1937 and 1938. The travels so far have covered Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, South Korea, Canada and USA. The trip will continue from New York down to Argentina, over to South Africa and back home to Norway via East coast Africa. For detailed accounts of the adventure please visit the brilliant website http://www.kccd.no/

Highlights for the appearance at the Motorcycle Show will be:
1) A Slideshow about the trip so far, from Norway to USA, covering 13 countries, two broken frames and front forks, 6 head gaskets, countless other breakdowns, too many liters of vodka and other trivialities you face when travelling the world on 70 year old motorcycles. The slideshows will be presented Friday, 1/22 - 1:00pm, Saturday, 1/23 - 10:00am, and Sunday, 1/24 - 4:00pm at the Hub Seminar Stage.

2) View the ultimate touring machine for those who love to wrench in remote desserts and completely disregard comfort on a motorcycle: the one and only 1937 model Nimbus that has been driven across the entire Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia over to the states. The bike was covered in authentic American road salt from crossing the northern states in December. It is a living witness of severe abuse of a classic bike for extreme touring.

3) Hear us swashbuckling about our ability to create disasters, chaos, and breakdowns. Learn from the best in class how bad planning, even worse execution, and low budget can be defeated by stubbornness and ignorance of common sense.

For more info about the trip please see our website www.kccd.no. For information and the location of the Cycle World International Motorcycle Show in New York please see www.motorcycleshows.com/new+york+features

Please see the attached pictures from our slideshow that will be presented and feel free to use them in relation to this press release. All rights reserved Tormod Amlien.
