Pelican I'll take another pic with the tank off and get it posted.

Someone told me that I have a kit on this bike. Being the rear spoiler/fender and gas tank. Anybody know about this?

The oil tank is really rusty. It is chrome plated. Its not aluminum.

Hello Whiskers,
I live in GR, Wyoming to be exact, and I have a 72 Bitsa(200xxx). I believe that you in particular is going to know that there is no such thing as a free Norton. I also believe that this could be your finest hour if just to save another piece of James L. Nortons soul from the EBay scrap yard. There is a ton of information out there, parts up the wazoo and all the technical knowledge required for you to succeed, Grasshopper. I suggest two or three manuals from different publishers, although not required a set of whitworth tools and maybe a small parts washer. I have done extensive work to bring my machine to what I believe to be a very high standard. If you have a chance to see my 72, and you may if you wish, you will see the love, care and respect I have for these pride rich machines. You may contact me if you wish by clicking on my user name and email through this forum.
p.s. Bitsa = Bitsa of this, Bitsa of that.

Hi going off your frame number 137XXX your bike is a 1970 fastback mk1 and the kit you refer to - tailpiece oil tank seat and petrol tank are all origonal fastback parts, potential for a nice bike, does the engine numbers match the frame?

I'm reading post headings in the motorcycle section. I am plainly reading English but not understanding unless I open the post and read word for word.

The difference in language between metric bikes and English bikes is astounding. I know how motorcycles work but really there are so many differences. Am I just plain crazy or does anyone else experience this?

The undertaking of this Norton basket project is truly starting over in many ways for me.

You'll get used to it pretty quickly. Some of us in the US have been involved with British bike since we were kids 40 years ago as well as we have a number of real British and colonials on the board. Do yourself a favor and Google whitworth and most of the rest of the terminology will just fall into place. Some things like the iso mounts are Commando only but you'll get used to them. I'm sure there might also be a couple of British to American translation articles on Google. I had to marry a Kiwi to find out a spanner was just a wrench.

I agree with user possm. Your frame number indicates a Manufacturing date between June And September 1970.

Can someone tell me if the rear fender and gas tank are part of a kit that Norton sold seperately? Or is it aftermarket?

From your album photos, it looks like a standard production "Fastback" model.
