Need to vent! Not the bike, just me.

I'm disgusted with my fellow man!!! A while ago I was at The Garage Company and bought a used piece of shifter linkage from Yoshi that had Hiem joints at each end. I cut it the the leangth and re- threaded it to use with my rearsets. All good. Took it to a hardware store Iv'e been going to for 30 years to fit the bolts to it and the guy there was really rude trying to rush me so he could close but I had ten minuets before closing time, in my haste I left the rod sitting on a shelf in the hardware section. I called the store the next morning and they couldn't find it and I went there myself & it was gone! I was really pissed at how rude the clerk was & now I'm pissed as it looks like some one saw it & rather than turning it in they just took it! I can make a new one but what a bad set of circumstances and lousy behavier by my fellow man!!!

Sucks but what can ya do but vent it off on the rest of us and us in turn when fate fuks with us too. Regardless of the jerk in the store you are the one that got distracted and left it to his care. Hey I've been distracted at times too and crashed.

M.A.P. used a head shop that stopped working on Norton heads w/o telling anyone. Ms Peel head was lost to the world for a year, about 6 months beyond me being ready roll, so had to buy another standard head just to break in, but that worked out so well Ms Peel became a squid hunter. If ya live ya learn.

How about the delivery guy that left a refurbished head in a box in front of garage door, wife got in car, opened door then backed out over it - trashed to the heart.

Ugh...

Ya Hobot I do to some degree agree with you that I need to take resonsibility for the fact that I did set it down and leave it there. However, it would not have happened if this jerk wasn't standing there calling off the seconds to closing time wich by the way was wrong because my reciet says I still had several miuets. I'm practiced at the ritual of finding out my part in bad situations. (Program trained you might say & I know You know what I mean) I am at fault here in more than one way BUT if this jerk had not distracted me it would not have happened. What sucks is I've looked through Mc Master Carr & Aircraft Spuce and still can't find Rod ends ( Hiem loints, Rose joints etc ) that are like the one's I just lost. They had a threaded shaft, one Right hand one Left hand thread that was threaded as 1/4 x 28 x 1" long but the " head" was thinner than what I can find. It was about 1/8 to 3/16 where as what I'm finding is much thicker and the overall outside diameter of the ones I'm finding is more like 3/4" and the old ones were more like 1/2" to 5/8". Basically it's the thickness I don't like. All the ones being sold with a 1/4x 28 threaded shaft are much thicker than what I had. I wish I knew where they came from.

The only thing you can do now is make your money talk, never ever go there again, write them a letter saying what happened, it may not do anything, but it will vent your frustrations. Last year, on a trip, I forgot my cell phone in a Holiday Inn in Albany, that is my fault and I take full responsability for that, the person who found it, I would venture a wild guess and say it was the cleaning staff, instead of returning it to the front desk, used it to surf the web until I reported the phone lost, the cost to me was $115. Even if I complained to the hotel and to Holiday Inn about what happened, nothing was done, not a peep. My only option now is to never ever stay at a Holiday Inn.

Ugh GT the lost of item d/t clerk pressuring you is punishment enough w/o me rubbing it in. The majority of my lack of motorcycling most of last decade and about all of this one were not d/t my faults - beyond striving to get on and involved with cycles. Avoiding a convenient place double sucks, hope its wasn't the owner. I'm a bit Hindu trained and they always mention karma unknowns and everything exactly right no matter what, but sucks just the same. They say changing attitude or such not can reduce a lost bike to merely lost item, at least that's what I tell myself to keep from burning places down prior.

Small rod end eh, I suspect what you seek is found in Harley shift linkages or aircraft control linkages.

A couple years ago, my wife went to visit our son who was in school in san francisco. She took a cab from the airport to the city, and gave the middle eastern cabby a $10 tip. She also left her phone in his car, and a minute later called the company. While she was on the line, she could hear the driver tell his dispatcher there was no phone in his cab! On her trip home, she left my camera on the plane. Hours later, Hawaiian Air responded "Sorry, no camera was found" (now you know why all my photo uploads have been crappy phone shots!)

IMHO, there are two types of people in this world, givers and takers. Most are takers. Be prepared.

Cheers,

Don
98% of all Harleys ever sold are still on the road. The other 2% made it home.

I think you need to leave the wife somewhere.
You probably want to go into town, and find a up to date Jap Bike store,
With a full spares department, a clean workshop, and kean young mechanics.
And ask them if theres a Grumpy Old Bloke out in the Hills, who knows how to fix Real Motorcycles.
