MK3 Left Side Cover (roadster)

Postby JCD » Sun Jan 29, 2012 11:32 pm

Does anyone in the world reproduce the MK3 left side covers for the Roadster? I've scoured the parts stores and have been outbid on eBay. One guy ended the auction early at $75. The other wouldn't end it early for any offer. I've found one on the Andover website that is glass reinforced plastic. No pictures available, but is stated for the MK3 Roadster. I can live with a fiberglass cover but would prefer steel. Any love out there?

Do you still have the stock air box? If not, buy one of the repop steel covers with the long bracket on it. Most of them have the pocket in the side. You can cut that out if need be. Depends on how big a battery you have? Then you buy the Dzus fastener that fits to the frame to latch the cover. Paint it and go for a ride.........

I bought one of those covers from British Only. Sent it back because it didn't have the attachment hole on the rear side (opposite the long bracket) Wasn't sure it would stay on only being attached at the front, and loosely fitted by friction on the bottom with the rubber grommet. If it did stay on, it would rattle like hell. I suppose I could fab a bracket to make it fit. The little pocket on the inside could come in handy for some extra goodies too. Maybe I'll call it back, since I still carry a credit with them. Cheers.

JCD...........

I just saw a friend's MK III where he made a clamp style bracket that wrapped around the backbone of the frame and over to the side cover. There is no way that rascal will come off. A bolt is used in the hole where the plasic fastener attached to the airbox. I can try to get a picture? It was well made..........
