The piston are the short slot type but they are getting replaced anyway. Not sure how they occurred but there were gouge marks around the crown and on the skirt. Perhaps from a previous decarbon job?

This is the short slot type that was in the engine. Note the damage around the crown. There is also some damage on the skirt.

I doubt if this one makes it to New Ulm, but I am planning on riding the 70 Thunderbolt I just finished.

New vernier adjusters for the isolastics

Timing side put back together and engine and gear box installed back in the frame

Seemed like a good time to install oil filter and lines

Swing arm reinstalled with new shocks and hardware

Next project is to get the rear wheel back together and make a roller out of it.

Progress report time.
Rear wheel and brake reassembled and installed.

Cylinders back from machinist with a +.040 overbore and honed. New pistons and rings ready to go in.

Checking ring gaps

Did the method of putting the pistons in the cylinders on the bench and then dropping over the rods and installing pins. Doing a semi-dry assembly, Just a few drops of oil smeared on the piston skirts.

Next project is getting the head all reassembled and back on.

I haven't put the battery tray in yet. Looks like you need to bolt the horn to it first before it goes in. Am I missing something?
