missing gears

Postby 4onthefloor » Fri Jan 08, 2010 4:13 am

I miss one gear and neutral. I inspected the shifter cover and i think the springs and lever should be ok. When i move the quadrant knuckle lever it holds three times, at lowest position ( i think this should be the first ) it hits the square window ( the window in the case where the lever moves up'n down ).
Is it possible to fix the cam disc in the wrong position? The transsmission was rebuild from the previous owner.......and can i fix this with the transsmission in the bike ????

Thanks for any help

Your camplate is misstimed, probably off a tooth or two. Yes, you can fix this in the bike - I just did, when I misstimed the camplate during a rebuild. Not hard at all. Make sure you have all four gears before you button her up again. Good luck.

Marco, get yourself a manual then check the gearbox is timed properly (It is easy to put the cam plate in the wrong position), you can do most things without taking the box out so its not a big hassle. I'm sure there are links on here for online manuals.

Excellent gearbox teardown and rebuild instructions, including cam timing, in the technical section at oldbritts.com.

Thanks a lot, that's nice to hear. I will try to do the repair with the gear box in the bike, i made a full resto and i don't want to take the hole bike apart.

Have a nice weekend
