Hidden treasures. (Hesketh V1000 Engine)

Postby Brewer » Tue May 26, 2009 12:44 am

Hi all,
I was looking through a second hand shop in country WA. and in a room out the back ...I stumbled across. A V1000 twin engine. which judging by my research! seems to be a complete Hesketh engine!
It looks to be in reasonable condition.
The guy who owns this shop does not own the whole building, so It seems another person owns this engine.

I was just wondering if anybody would have a fair IDEA of what you would expect to pay for a second hand engine of this type?. approximately. I do realize that it would be hard to determine the mechanical condition of such.
I am just looking for a ball park figure! What a Hesketh V1000 second hand would be worth, for future bargaing with the owner perhaps?

Brewer your use of the abbreviation WA threw me for a minute. I was trying to think what a Hesketh motor would be doing here in Washington State (also abbreviated WA). It wasn't until I looked over at the identification box that I realised it was Western Australia!

What a fascinating story someone must have and I wonder what happened to the rest of the bike it was originally mounted in.

it seems that when I've seen a motor for sale by itself the story often involved a horrendous crash.

Thanks,
ntst8 and Frank Damp. I have recently found out that the guy who owns the building operates a motor museum....
The Hesketh 1000V twin engine was not the only thing I discovered
I also saw a Scott Squirell, a Excellsior and a Nimbus motorcycle in the same room. This room was dark and full of clutter-very untidy.
I am sure there is more motorcycles... I saw various different types of crankcases & heads etc.
Who knowns what else may be hidden/ burried beneath the swarf.
I did take some photos, so I may post them if anyone is interested.

You are joking, yes? Post the pictures!
You probably want to go into town, and find a up to date Jap Bike store,
With a full spares department, a clean workshop, and kean young mechanics.
And ask them if theres a Grumpy Old Bloke out in the Hills, who knows how to fix Real Motorcycles.

Brewer,

the blokes name isn't Tom is it. Have seen pics from WA of two LARGE sheds full of salvaged unrestored bikes - mostly 70's Jap and Italian but some Brit and some older machinery. All quietly gathering dust.

This isn't the Kiwi guy that has a couple of hundred bikes in a collection started by his dad is it. I think he's on Palmerston North if memory serves.

Oops, I see this is in Oz.

Is the HESKETH V1000 Engine up for sale by any chance?

I have a couple of these bikes that are ridden quite enthusiastically which I'm told by the HESKETH "experts" is a stupid thing to do because they will break!

28 years later and miraculously they are still running but a spare engine would be handy for when the inevitable happens, or I just get bored and pull them to bits to find out why they are still working.

LOVE the new, new Comando but does it's engine performance genuinely merit such high spec forks, shocks and brakes etc?

1980 Laverda 180 Jota - MAD! Very Orange, brilliant when its working and on song
1973 Ducati 350 Desmo widecase - All say "ahhhhhhh....."
2010 Comando - I wish....

No, but the price tag does.
